I'm Baaacccckkk....!!!!

Wow...what a fun time I've had these past few days! We just wrapped up our Camp Blanding retreat and I'm finally getting rested up. Who would know that sitting around all day... sewing... laughing... and having a blast would make me so darn tired. On the way home (Tuesday) I felt like all of the blood had been drained from my body... so sleepy! Of course that could have been because I'm not used to staying up until midnight (5 nights in a row) and then waking up at 6:00 am.

I'm not sure why... but no matter what time I go to bed... my peepers are open around 6:00 each morning (sometimes MUCH earlier). So... why fight it.. get up and start the day! Too many things to do ... will I ever get them all done?

We were honored by the visit from the Senior Staff of Camp Blanding and their wives. We presented each of them with a quilt (wives) - for their part in supporting our active military - they so deserve the recognition.

Our group presented the base with 17 quilts for their soldier family program. It's so wonderful to know they go to great families!

Our Sale Room... well let me tell you... it was stuffed! That room sold $13, 400.00 worth of "stuff" from the participants purging - cleaning out their stash - getting rid of old crafts.... it was so much fun to see the smiles of everyone as they walked out of the room with their new treasures. It simply amazes me to see what each of them will do with the new items.

Today - my honey (Jack) and I celebrate our anniversary! 44 years... wow... that's a long time with one man! And.. he is so wonderful! Tonight we are going to dinner at Marker 32... never been there before but I hear it's pretty darn good!

Today we are helping our daughter (Heather) move into a house they just purchased. What a cute lay-out it has... great big screened in porch on the back... beautiful stone fireplace.... I can't wait to see how cute she fixes it up... she's so talented!

I'm now the proud craftsman of these bracelets... they will soon be on my website to purchase!!

My clasps are just a little different... plus I will be hanging a sweet charm from one of the links. They will sell for $10.00. I made quite a few of them at the retreat... I asked the gals to wear them... test them.. let me know what to change. I've received that feedback and they will soon be ready to order. You'll just need to tell me your wrist size and that's it.. then I'll ship them to you!

They are perfect for all of us that love to sew!!

I'm also working on another bracelet.... wait until you see them!!! SO COOL!!!

Since it's almost time to hit the road and help Heather... I'll have to cut this posting short... here's your feel good picture for the day....

Ok... I'm starving!! The only bad thing about blogging...especially when I want to share some recipes that appear to be awesome... is.... IT MAKES ME SO HUNGRY!! And... of course... I have to find those recipes that I cannot eat!! HOWEVER, I decided to save them anyway... and once I loose all of this ugly FAT, I'm going to treat myself twice a month to a yummy recipe. I'll have ONE portion (I hope ... only one!) and then Jack can have the rest... or I'll take some to my quilting group. If I get them all fat and sassy... I'll look even skinnier! HA... (just teasin' gals...)

So.. with that in mind... LOOK AT THESE POTATOES!!! (do you know how long it's been since I've had a yummy potato??? Since I went on this silly diet in September... ARG!!) ((((sniffle)))) I love potatoes... especially fried, greasy ones!

They are nothing super special... just tossed with a little dill, garlic salt and olive oil and roasted on a cookie sheet in the oven. But don't you just want to dive - FACE FIRST - into these bad boys! mmm.... sour cream with them would be even better... maybe some butter... HELP ME!!!! HELP ME!!!!

Then... there's something else I have been craving... FRITOS! Now... I didn't eat them often.. but when you get the hungrys for them... nothing will fill the void. There again.... it's the "grease" thing! PLUS.. I found this yummy dip to go with them!! Oh my.....

Mexicorn Dip - 2 cans Mexicorn, 1 can hot Rotel, 2 cups shredded cheddar, 6 green onions (sliced), + 1 cup each mayo and sour cream.

I must admit... I'm not a "hot" Rotel kind of girl... nor have I ever had Mexicorn (have you?) but I just thought the combination of these ingredients just couldn't be bad. You got the diary and the vegetables... yum... yum... give me some! It could be that eating it with the spatula might BE THE WAY TO GO!! Ha!!! I can't wait to give this a try. Then... to be on the healthy side... I could spread some of this mixture on to a celery stick. .... then again.... nope... just can't do it.. it has to be the Fritos!!

I've decided that I want to make adorable stuffed hearts... I've seen so many of them lately and they are calling my name. I think once they are all finished... I shall put them in an antique wooden bowl I have... add a few sprigs of red berries and BOOM... a cute, cute display. ((It's all about the presentation you know...)))

What do you think????? Good idea??? I LOVE IT!!! I'll add this idea to my TO DO list. (((oh my gosh... you have no idea how long it is...))) These are great hand projects to work on while I'm watching TV! I just can't sit there and do nothing... can you?

Then.. I found another great idea (that I didn't think of!).... Look how they've taken cork board and simply glued it to the inside of a cabinet door. Hello... how simple is this!

I need one in my spice cabinet. Every time I buy a new spice.. I need to put it on a list. Since I'm in to 'cooking' more these days (don't ask my how that came about... have no clue) I find recipes with spices that I'm not sure I have.

So.. what do I do... go to the spice cabinet and spend 15 minutes (or more) looking through all of them to see if the one I need is there. (I have no memory anymore...)

While searching... moving cans and jars around.. have you ever noticed how they fall all over the place? Man.. I hate that. I stack them up.. they fall again.... and again... until finally I simply give up and shut the cabinet door! A spice list on the inside of the door will now solve this frustrating issue! What a genius idea... (I do get them from time to time...)

Okay.. now that I've solved the SPICE JAR issue... let's GET ORGANIZED!!

Let's talk measuring cups, measuring spoons... let's go through all of our 'baking items' and get them organized. How many sets of measuring spoons do you own? I must admit.. I think I have around 4 or 5... BUT.. they all seem to come apart and the one spoon you need... is not in the set you've picked up. Now you have to dig to find it.. or pick out another set of measuring spoons. Why... oh why.. does baking have to be so stressful?

It doesn't... 'cause I'm cleaning up this mess and gettin' organized!!

Today is the day... I've been waiting for this day FOREVER!!! We are loaded up and heading to Camp Blanding this afternoon to get everything ready for our weekend retreat.

I had such a hard time deciding what in the heck to take to work on! So... I have a couple of hand projects and two quilts to work on... (yea right... like I'm going to get all of this done...ha!). Since this is a 5 day venture... I surely don't want to run out of things to do! (that will never happen...not in my entire lifetime...)

I found this wonderful story about a little girl and her dog... I just had to share it with all of you. It's a little lengthy...but so worth reading.

Our 14year old dog, Abbey, died last month. The day after she died, my 4 year olddaughter Meredith was crying and talking about how much she missed Abbey. Sheasked if we could write a letter to God so that when Abbey got to heaven, Godwould recognize her. I told her that I thought we could so she dictated thesewords: Dear God, Will you please take care of my dog? She died yesterday and iswith you in heaven. I miss her very much. I am happy that you let me have heras my dog even though she got sick. I hope you will play with her. She likes toplay with balls and to swim. I am sending a picture of her so when you see herYou will know that she is my dog. I really miss her. Love, Meredith We put theletter in an envelope with a picture of Abbey and Meredith and addressed it toGod/Heaven. We put our return address on it. Then Meredith pasted severalstamps on the front of the envelope because she said it would take lots ofstamps to get the letter all the way to heaven. That afternoon she dropped itinto the letter box at the post office. A few days later, she asked if God hadgotten the letter yet. I told her that I thought He had. Yesterday, there was apackage wrapped in gold paper on our front porch addressed, ‘To Meredith’ in anunfamiliar hand. Meredith opened it. Inside was a book by Mr. Rogers called,‘When a Pet Dies.’ Taped to the inside front cover was the letter we hadwritten to God in its opened envelope. On the opposite page was the picture ofAbbey & Meredith and this note: Dear Meredith, Abbey arrived safely inheaven. Having the picture was a big help. I recognized Abbey right away. Abbeyisn’t sick anymore. Her spirit is here with me just like it stays in yourheart. Abbey loved being your dog. Since we don’t need our bodies in heaven, Idon’t have any pockets to keep your picture in, so I am sending it back to youin this little book for you to keep and have something to remember Abbey by. Thankyou for the beautiful letter and thank your mother for helping you write it andsending it to me. What a wonderful mother you have. I picked her especially foryou. I send my blessings every day and remember that I love you very much. Bythe way, I’m easy to find, I am wherever there is love. Love, God…

I'm not sure what person followed through with this... but they are an angel of God's!!! How sweet!

Do you know what these are? They are called Tallow berries. They grow on trees... I MUST tell you this story... Several years ago we lived in a house off Old St. Augustine Road... I soon discovered one morning that I had 3 of these trees growing on the side of my house. Now.. let me tell you... I was so EXCITED!!

I've loved these things forever and could never find them. They look so cute in my primitive decorating. Well.... I kept watching the biggest tree... until the "popcorn" (the nickname for these berries) was just the right size... nice and white. Then I wake up one morning and it's raining.. I knew it was time to cut the berries when I came home from work and let them dry out in the garage.

Soooooooooooooo ... I came home from the store... pulled in the driveway and noticed the yard fellows had been there... grass looked wonderful! Then I noticed... on the side of the street - clippings from my Tallow Tree! LOTS OF CLIPPINGS!!! I was SCREAMING IN THE CAR... NNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO..... I flew out of the car - whipped open the fence gate to the back yard... and there it was... a NAKED TREE - my berries were ALL GONE. I know this is silly... but I just sobbed! (call me a little crazy)... sniffle... no more popcorn... it was all in the street in little pieces. If I would have had a GUN.. the yard man would have been DEAD!

The sad part of this story is... the cutting of the tree shocked it so much... it NEVER bloomed again! Isn't that a sad, sad story? (((sniffle))) It still makes me tear up! Oh well... on to better things!

3 New Sewing Projects I have planned

I love this one... I'm going to make it with wool appliques! This pattern is from Joined at the Hip. It will soon be on my cutting table. I'm making it a sample for my B-a-a-a-d Girls club. I think everyone would have fun making it. It's called Sunflower Baskets!!

Here's another one....

"Spring is Here". I thought the center flowers would look cute from wool too!!! These projects are nice for my dining room table and are quick to construct. I like quick!!!

Then... I found this adorable 'heart'......

Isn't it adorable... I don't know what I'm going to do with it.. .but you know... I don't care. Wait a minute... I just had a thought. It would look adorable propped up on the shelf I have hanging above a quilt. hhhmmm.... maybe I'd better rehang a new quilt... a RED and WHITE one... ok... I know have a vision! I can feel redecorating in my bones... all because of this silly little heart. Help me... help me.....

Well... I do have some computer work and a couple of pattern orders to fill... so I'm passing on your tip of the day for getting organized. This one is simple...

Go through your bathroom towels and washcloths. Dump the ones that are 'on the edge of being nasty'... you know... the ones that you've had since your wedding day!! Put them in your rag pile... watch the sales and treat yourself to some wonderfully, fluffy, new towels !!!

AAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW.... Isn't this adorable? This puppy reminds me of my friend's (Cathy) puppy! She's such a sweet lab. These are the most loveable dogs. I thought it was time for a sweet, picture to make us feel good today. Do you feel better? I'd love to kiss the top of her head right now....

Ok... I've always had a fascination with all of the cool things people do with men's ties... but I'm thinking I love this the best! This Christmas tree skirt is made from ties !!! It's so colorful and very, very wonderful. It can fit both the artistic quilter and the primitive!

HOWEVER... this puppy is FOR SALE for a mere.... $1200.00 !! Whip out your checkbooks and buy me ONE..!!! Can you imagine. BUT once you look at it close up and all the work that is involved you can see why. Have you ever sewn with ties? I haven't... but I envision them to be slippery, raveling all over the place... and really, really hard to keep your seam straight.

Now that I've scared the stew out of you (never wanting to work with ties), I'm challenging you to help me find a pattern for this sweet thing! Does anyone know where it could be????

Now this idea needs to be used on my kitchen rugs. I've tried the woven rubbery stuff under them... nope...doesn't work well... they still slip. I'm going to get my honey on this project. He'll be more than happy to help...he hates the slippery rug thing... makes him VERY unhappy!

"Slip-proof your rug: To give an area rug some traction, flipit over, and apply lines of acrylic-latex caulk every 6 inches or so. Once dry,you can safely put down your rug; the rubbery strips will hold it in place.. .. brilliant!"

I know this is a Christmas Idea... but I just couldn't help myself in sharing it with you. I think it's so cool and I only wish I would have thought of it years ago when we were first married! Every time you live in a house or apartment - keep one of the keys and make it into a cute Christmas decoration for your tree. Then when you are trimming your tree you can remember back to those days and remember the fun times, how you decorated your place, friends you hung out with, vacations you took, etc. Isn't that sweet? I thought it would be cute to give to children for those special events for later in their life... like - this is the house you were born in (maybe attach a little photo in a frame attached to the key), this is the house where you first learned to ride a bike, this is the house where you lived when you started school, this is the house you lived in when you lost your first tooth, where you went on your first date, ssssssseeeeeeeeeeee............ get the idea????

I know it will mean a 'hill of beans' to them when they are little... but when they get to be older - they will love it. That you took the time to make these memories for them. So... this is my theory.... it you want to start NOW and your children are older (let's say in grade school) find some old keys... make the memories from them and then save them! (they will have NO CLUE they are not the actual keys from the house... tee hee!) Then from this day on - you can use the actual keys. Sound good? Please let me know if you all decide to do this. I just think it's a sweet idea.

Now my daughter, Heather and her honey, Keck... they have moved 16 times since they have been married (FIFTEEN YEARS!). I think that's what she said the other night. They love to buy houses, fix them up, sell them for a profit, and then move to another one and do the same thing. So, Lexie, will have a good start on "Christmas Keys" already... RIGHT HEATHER? HA! ((love you))

Look at this sweet thing! I just think it's adorable and I'm just going to have to make one of these. What can I do with it then...hhhmmmm... I know.. I'm going to hang it from the latch on my yellow cabinet in my sewing room... it will look adorable there!

I saw one similar to this hanging from a picture of grandchildren that was hanging on the wall. 3 of them in one picture (one for each flower)... they are the 'hearts' of their Grandma and Grandpa... that's for sure!!

Find a storage shelf that is a MESS!! Go through everything - purge, merge and straighten. Remember to use baskets, plastic containers, etc. and get things looking spiffy!!

Happy Monday everyone! Are you ready for an exciting week? Mine is hustle bustle... I'm finishing up my hooking retreat today...! I'll post pictures for you when I get them all cropped !

Then... it's time to put all of the final touches to the January Camp Blanding Retreat. I'm so excited.... We only have this event 2 - 3 times a year and it's a blast. I think I have 172 people signed up... wwwhhhhooooiiieeeee...! What Fun.

I'm already working on the fall retreat... fun new things we're trying to get going for you.

Today's "feel good" photo is a hoot.. I burst out laughing when I found it. I hope it brightens your day!

HEY...speaking of babies... I'm going to be a great-GG (grandma gloria) to a sweet baby girl!!! My grand-daughter - Elizibeth is having "Aubree" in June (around the 9th). I'm so excited!!! Ok... just so you know... there are NO boys in this family (only my son - Toby). I have 4 grand-daughters and soon 1 great grand-daughter... there's still time for a boy though...

I'm not loosing hope!

I can't wait to snuggle her!!!

Decorating ideas!

I found some really cool ideas I thought I would pass on to you! Take a peak at how they used these adorable hankies!

Isn't this precious? It looks like they hung a second rod (maybe covered with fabric - or ribbon wrapped around the rod??) Then hooked them on with the cafe rod hooks. Do you have a collection of hankies? Do you own hankies from your mother or grandmother? What a wonderfully, sweet way to display them. Heck..these would look great in your sewing studio too! Or in a guest bedroom, or a little girls bedroom.... or even in a bathroom!

I like how they folded them - staggered/overlap look so you get to see the entire hankie!

I think it's super cool!!!

And here was another fun idea for hanging curtains - the primitive way!! LOVE IT!!

I'm not sure why I'm attracted to hooks... so is my daughter, Heather. (kind of strange don't you think?) Oh well.. it is what it is! I think this is so cool...for those of you that are primitive lovers. OR... for those of you that aren't into the crackly look... it would also look wonderful painted a coordinating color to match your room. Can you just see the board painted a soft pink on a white wall with white tab curtains? That sounds like a Susan Ache (she loves pastel - OMG you should see her house...it should be in a magazine!) idea doesn't it? I just love this. Now.. let's talk about the hooks.

You can find old antique spoons - take them out to the concrete driveway - get a STRONG hammer and hammer the spoon part flat... then bend the spoon into a hook. Screw them to the board... are you with me? I've seen hooks made from spoons - with all different patterns on the handle - they are so pretty! Try it!!!

Then... let's talk light switches!! Many times they are the forgotten little "touch" that can make the room. Let's say you have a bedroom that is full of wonderful toile - bedspread, curtains.. maybe a chair or some accent pillows. Well, here is a way to take that same look and 'dress up' your light switch covers! Here's the link: Covered Plates and Switches

I just love these... I've made covered switches before and they work great... especially with the modpodge covering.

Christmas.. I found a garland that I'm simply going to have to start collecting for. That's why I'm showing it to you now... BECAUSE IT'S WINTER and your luck at finding red mittens is now easier!!

Don't you want one of these???? Now.. if you don't want to hang it in front of a window... how about the fireplace????? From the mantle???? Ok.. here is my issue... where in the heck do I find RED MITTENS in FLORIDA? BINGO... I have the answer!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes.. my dear friends... EBAY!!! I just went online and found about 10 pair that will be adorable. Now.. the continuing issue... they are NOT CHEAP.. so I have to purchase them one pair at a time. I would really love to have old ones... but now we're talking ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE to find. So.. I'll get the new ones and beat the crap out of them and make them look old! Spray them with Primitive Gatherings stain, unravel some of the knitting.... drag them out in the yard in the dirt (ha.. just teasin'!) and before you know it... they will look old.

I'm even using some of my OLD CLOTHESPINS to hang them to the twine/rope line. OR.. I may just attach them to one of my awesome greenery garlands ... add some snowflake ornaments, a few primitive homespun bows... YIPPEE!!! How far away is Christmas... I can't wait to make this display! (my husband is going to think I've lost my marbles... oh well...)

So... are you now on the mitten hunt??? We'll all have to take pictures and then send them to me so I can post them! What fun!

YUMMY TIME !!! Who loves Carrabas(sp?) ??? I do...!! It's one of my favorite restaurants - locally that is! I found the dipping sauce that you get with their bread. Here is the recipe!!

You know how I love Annies... don't you? (Well...I DO!) and the cuter and primitive they are the better. I had a brainstorm! I'm going to have my wool hooking instructor, Katie... help me hook Annie's face... and then attach it to a body and make this sweet thing....

She's pretty pitiful looking isn't she? I have just the antique doily that will look so sweet on her dress.

Check out those eyes and that huge nose!! WOW! She's pretty sad looking and that's JUST THE WAY I LIKE HER!

I have a pair of old 'saddle shoes' from a child that I think I'll put on her. Won't that look sweet? (I remember wearing those things and hated them!)

Well, I have been having a blast these past few days. I am in a wool rug hooking retreat here in Jacksonville and I'm in "WOOL HEAVEN". All you can see - across the entire room - are heads of people (working on their projects) and beautiful wool everywhere! I'm waiting to post pictures until the entire weekend is over with. We have a show (for those that have 'finished' projects to display) where I'm taking lots of pictures and I'll post them for you. Along with pictures of the hooking room, etc.

So... I have to post before it's time to take off and HOOK!!!

I found another adorable Annie!! This is a pattern... I'm thinking I might have to purchase one and put it in my 'pattern library'! Do you have one of those? It's getting rather large .. I must admit!

I'm sorry if the picture is a bit blurry.... Isn't she a hoot. I love the way they did the stitching around her eyes. Her poor little nose... it's a bit of a mess ... but I sure do like it! She'll be added to my collection.

Remember the terminioloy - "FAT CAT"? Well... this is one. Poor fella... how in the heck can he walk? We had a fat cat when we were kids... but it did not even compare to this BIG DUDE! How in the heck can he clean himself? I wonder what size CAT PAN they have for this bad boy? Whew! I feel pretty darn skinny right now... don't you? I'd love to know what his name is!

I decided I would pick fun things to make for today's blog. It simply amazes me what people can think of to make ... and how talented they are. I saw this sweet little bird... I love birds..don't you? When we had wonderful birds in the store they "flew" out the door (tee hee) with customers taking them home. People just love sweet birds. We can make this one!!

Let's say you're having a dinner party and you want it to be some type of a theme. Find those pictures from magazines, tape them together, do your magic with the paper punch and you have a great idea for a centerpiece. What a great way to get the conversation going!

Plus... I've always wanted to learn to knit... GOOD! I do know how to knit and pearl... I just can't do all of the other tricky stiches - add stitches, cast over, decrease... it's all Greek to me. But.. it's one of those things on my bucket list. My mother knitted all the time. Did she ever show me how to make things.... NNNNNOOOOOOOOOOO!!! What was up with that anyway? hhhhmmm....

Well... today is the BLOG day for quilting. I've just seen too many wonderful new ideas that I must share with you. However... we MUST have our funny for the day! Look what I just saw!!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Isn't this a hoot? It sure did make me laugh... what are the odds of getting this picture. Just too wondeful!

Then... here is our aaaaaaawwwwwwwwwwww photo!!

Sweet little fellow... Wonder what he's dreaming of? His little head is on Teddy's arm.. like a pillow! I sure would like to scoop him up!

One of the blocks I showed you in earlier blogs... take a peak...

I've been trying to think what fabric I want to make it out of... I just can't decide! I don't have colors like the picture... I could use all of the different "dressing gowns" from the 1800's (love that look), I could use different blue and whites...hhhmmm.... it just hasn't hit me yet and I want to make it so BAD!!! I think I'll dig around in my fabric closet (HUGE walk-in - pray for me that I come out alive!) and see if something strikes my fancy!

Then... here's is another one...

Several of my sewing buddies loved this block (from Pinterest) so I put it on EQ and made it into a quilt pattern for them. I have to remember to print more copies and take to my sewing group again.. they all want to make one. Isn't it cute? LOVE IT! I'm sure it has a name (don't know what it is) but I've named it "happy star"! It looks so colorful and happy!

Then... I just saw a new block...

Have you noticed a pattern here? Everything I've picked out is very colorful with LOTS of pieces. Now the LOTS of pieces part I like... however, I hardly ever make anything with bright colors... what's up with me anyway??? hhhmmm... maybe my tastes are changing and I didn't even notice it!

Then there is this wonderful little table. These are the old wooden TV trays.. you know ... the kind with the slippery tops that everything slides off of? Well... look what great ironing tables they make. Simply put lots of batting down and cover it with fabric. Staple it on the underside and you're good to go! I especially like the fact they take up little floor space... good to take to retreats and classes with you. There is just something about getting up and down a million times when you are piecing and pressing that wears me out (even though it's good for me). Plus... I just love using my own iron.. one that I'm used to... don't you?

So... I told my friend (Lynn) that I would ask my hubby to be on the lookout for these at garage sales (he loves to take Lexie on Saturdays...) We should be able to pick these sweet things up for a great price.

This beautiful quilt - came to life again the other day at my sewing group. Karen had decided it was time to put the binding on this wonderful piece of artwork. This is from Marcie Patch - Patchalot Patterns - it's called Indian Paintbrush Patchalot Patterns . When we used to do shows.. we had this quilt and kits with us. We couldn't keep them in stock. It was one of our best sellers. You all need to order it today and make it for yourself. I CAN'T FIND MY PATTERN!! So it's time to order me another one. I didn't make the store sample so I don't have one for myself... and I simply MUST! Thanks Marcie for such a wonderful quilt!!

Well... I hear my hubby calling me for breakfast... it's time to wrap up today's blog. Here is your tip for organizing !!

Go through your plastic bag - plastic container - foil area! Dump what you don't use!!! Remember to push in the ends of the cardboard boxes on your foil and plastic wrap boxes. It will keep the roll IN THE BOX!

Good Morning!!!

Hope everyone is super great today. I've picked a hodge-podge of things to share with you today!

The first one is something that I was amazed at. I've been cooking since I was about 12 years old and used aluminum foil all that time. Did you know you could keep the silly roll inside the box (mine NEVER wants to stay inside!) while pulling out the foil and then tearing it? LOOK!!

Yes... I know... you are amazed (and if you already knew this...three cheers for you)!! You can push in on each end of the box and it keeps the roll from coming out of the box and acting crazy! Thank you ... whoever FIRST posted this on Pinterest! I am NOW a HAPPY girl!!! Isn't it amazing how the little things in life can make you feel so happy?

Collections - I thought I would share another one with you ... antique graters. now.. let me tell you... the round ones in the pictures.. well... they are almost impossible to find anymore. They are VERY old. My favorite thing to do with the graters is to use them at Christmas time. I place them on an antique ironstone platter (one that can handle heat) at different levels. (some of them are placed on coffee cups turned upside down). Then I place a clear votive cup with a candle inside under each one... lite them... and the display is gorgeous. I also put greenery and red berries on the plate. Once lit - the designs it shines on your ceiling and walls is so pretty. Scented candles (pine) are even better. LOVE THEM!

Check out this wonderful quilt. As you can tell - I'm a primitive/shabby chic kind of girl and I just think this quilt is the BOMB!! Do you have a list (or kits) of quilts that you know you just have to finish before you leave this earth? I do.. and this is one of them. Pulling the fabric for this bad boy will be so much fun. It's all of my favorite colors!!! How many quilts do you have on your "MUST MAKE" list? I haven't counted them lately...but I'm sure there are at least 12-24 of them. Speaking of that - I think I should get busy on punching them out!

I get so wrapped up in new projects - I do loose my focus QUITE OFTEN! Does that happen to any of you? I sure hope so... I don't want to be the lone ranger in this category.

Just yesterday I realized how I had lost track of time on getting some of my new quilt patterns published. Writing the pattern is pure torture to me. I love the design, love to make it... but having to keep my butt in a chair to write the instructions... BLAH!!! However, I must be more disciplined and GETTER' DONE !!! (I promise to do better...)

I found a wonderful, sweet thing on Pinterest! It's a 'thankful' jar! Here's how it works. Everyone in the family is to participate - even the kids. Every time something happens throughout the year where they are thankful - they are to write it down on a small slip of paper (with their name) and place it in a "Jar". Then on New Year's Day... the family opens the jar together and reads them all aloud. It gives the family 'bonding' time together to start the new year off... and helps them to remember all the things they are thankful for.

Isn't that a cool idea? Plus... you are not to be picky about what you put inside. Even if it may seem silly... if you were thankful for it, write it down. For example.. I can think of a few things that may seem silly - but they are so wonderful to me. I am thankful for "the laundry that I forget to finish in the washer and dryer that Jack finished for me". I am thankful for the sweet way Jack feeds the birds and squirrels everyday. I am thankful for how HE makes the bed every morning (I HATE making the bed.. .I think it comes from my mother pounding that into me every day when I was a kid.) He knows how much I don't like it... and he does it for me. (isn't that so sweet??)

I am thankful for my sweet daughter...that she has such a wonderful heart. I am thankful for my son-in-law and what a good daddy he is to Lexie.

January 19 - Thursday

Yippee!!! Only one day left and I'll be heading out to my Rug Hooking Retreat! I can't wait. It's been so long since I've worked on my wool hooking projects... I'm ashamed of myself. HOWEVER, this next week will be wonderful. While hooking I will also be taking care of last minute details for our Camp Blanding Retreat ! I have 169 in attendance! I CAN'T WAIT!!!! Now... trying to decide what to take to work on for 5 days is going to be a challenge. You never know how much you're going to get done... and I sure don't want to run out of projects (yea...right..like that's going to happen).

Hey... look at our sweet friend - doesn't he make you so happy inside? aawww.... he's saying... "don't you want to pick me up and love me"? His sweet little one patch eye!! We need to call him Jack (as in the pirate!)!

It's back to my passions - hhhmmmmm.... what could be another one of mine? Well... it's another strange one! It's old teddy bears!! When I see them in the antique stores - I just have to pick them up and give them a hug. I want to bring them home with me... but in case you haven't been shopping for old antique teddy bears lately... THEY ARE EXPENSIVE!! Nothing wrong with my taste..that's for sure. They just look so lonely sitting in the shops..all by themselves. So a little hug from me makes them happy for a long time. Look at these sweet fellas....

I have a boo-boo right foot... something happened to my paw. :(

Did a dog chew it off... what's the deal? Boo Hoo!

And... here I am... taking a namp... I'm soooooo tired!

See...aren't they sweet? Just think of the little child that loved and cuddled me. How can they get rid of these little momentos? I just don't understand it!

One of the things I'm always on the look out for is fun new ways to set the table. Not that I enterain that much (hardly at all...) but I keep all of these ideas stored on my Pinterest under "entertaining"... cause you just never know when the Queen or the President may come to dinner! HA!!!

Look at this cute idea....

They wrapped the napkin and silverware with a paper tag that showed what the menu was going to be for the meal! Isn't that clever? Well, I thought of something else. Let's say you are having a fun dinner with a bunch of your quilting friends... Take this same concept but type fun things on the paper tag that deal with quilting... like cute sayings... or how about the measurements of a fat quarter, fat eighth, how many charm squares you can cut from a yard of fabric... fun things like that!

You could make these place tags into anything that fits the group !! How fun is that? Is your brain spinning? Are you thinking of fun things to do with this project? Simply print them on your computer - maybe on some sweet paper from the scrapbook store... cut them out and tape them onto your silverware and napkin! Or... tape it around the glass - or across the plate... you get the picture!!!

Here's one of the first projects we are doing (MakeIt-Take It) for my B-a-a-a-a-d Girls Club (wool group) at Cinnamon's Quilt Shoppe (it starts the last Saturday in February). I'm bringing dessert in these jars! Since it's February - I can't decide to bring this yummy cheese cake - or red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting...

I'll serve the dessert - then with the lids - we are adorning with a wool lid cover - flowers - that we will stitch, add a cute button - and then glue into place. We'll then wash our dessert jars, put the lid on it... and it now becomes our little "wooley snippet" jar that we'll bring to class with us.

You see...we save all of our wool snippets and scraps. Then I'm going to show them how to make them into a pin cushion later in the year! (such a cool idea).

Let go of items from a hobby you have outgrown. This is a hard one isn't it? Sometimes I just don't want to give up stuff... you never know when you may need it. It's time... if you haven't touched it in years... and have NO desire to do so again... GET RID OF IT!

Hi everyone!!!

I've been reading my comments and I'm so excited that so many of you are anxious to learn traditional wool rug hooking.

Here's the deal... This coming weekend (Saturday through Tuesday) you can visit Katie's wool retreat and see what's going on!!

We will be at the Embassy Suites on Baymeadows Rd. When you come through the front doors - walk past the registration desk down the right side - in front of the meeting room doors - Find the door that lets you enter into the rug hooking classroom. You can come in.. it's OKAY for people to come and peak at what we are doing.

The entire room will be FULL of women (and a few men) hooking... I'm not sure where I will be sitting... but my teacher is Diane Kelly. Just ask anyone which class is hers... then find me! I'll make sure you get to see what's going on. Plus.. I'll introduce you to Katie and she can give you information on her classes.

She lives on Hood Rd in Mandarin and has a studio in her home. She teaches private classes (most of the time on Sunday afternoons) but you can get with her to see what's best for the both of you. She's so reasonable in her prices. We normally hook all afternoon and it's $20.00. Then you are welcome to come to our guild hook-in meetings.

PLUS.. we are having a fun retreat in April on St. Simons, Island that you may want to come to.

Please come and visit us this weekend. You won't be sorry... and when you see all of the awesome projects everyone is working on... you will be amazed!

Good Morning... Good Night!!!

I've just learned (from my friend, Lisa) that not only is my blog read in the morning with your first cup of "yummy" coffee... but at night before you go to bed (nite..nite...Lisa)! How sweet! You all have no idea how much I appreciate your sweet comments each day. They rock! It makes me grin and laugh out loud - what a good thing so early in the morning. Here it is 4:56 am and I've already been up for an hour (I know.. .I know... sleep just isn't in my world these days) reading your comments and deciding what to blog about today!

I've decided to share some more of my passions with you (I have LOTS of them so... I will NOT run out while blogging...). It's pin cushions! Yep... I could be classified as a pin cushion "_ _ ore"... if you know what I mean! Look at this sweet thing... (Karen... hide your eyes...it has a mouse on it!)

Now you tell me... how precious is this little fellow? (Karen.. it's fake..it won't hurt you! My friend Karen... she's DEATHLY afraid of mice... someday I'll tell you a gut-ripping-funny story about her and mice!)

Another passion ... buttons! When we go to Houston and some of the other big quilt shows, there is this booth (Can't remember the name of the company...sorry!) that sells vintage buttons, ribbons, all kinds of cool sewing stuff! Well, let me tell you... I could spend all day in her booth. It is just so awesome... I can feel an anxiety attack coming on when I enter! Look at this button display! Now... here you have buttons!!

The picture is a little blurry... but you get the idea. I remember - in Houston - they had a vendor with these button cards (hanging on the wall). They are the sample cards the salesmen used in "barking their product". I just loved them.. wanted several of them SO BAD.. to hang in my studio. Did I buy any...NO... what a boob girl I was. I've been on the look-out for them every since (ebay, quilt shows, etc.) and I've NEVER seen any as gorgeous as they were. How pretty they would have looked with my blue transfer ware plates! Oh well... it's still fun to be on the "hunt" for several of them while antiquing!

Now.. I know you may find this somewhat strange... remember in an earlier blog the basket with string and the wool bird sitting on top? Yes... I will admit.. I love antique string balls!!!! Are you scratching your head wondering where in the world I come up with these ideas??? I don't know... I simply don't know... but I just LOVE THEM... LOOK!!!

I know... it's silly isn't it? But just imagine how simple and awesome this would be sitting on top of my shelf in my studio above my antique quilt.... (((sigh)))

Hey... I have to show you my silly daughter! She and her hubby (Keck) and Lexie were on vacation several years ago in Michigan... they went into some kind of "hands-on" fun place. Well... here was a HUGE toilet in some kind of display. Look at Heather... isn't she a hoot??

She must get this silliness from her Dad's side of the family!! HAHAHAHAHAHA! Heather... you crack me up!

He's made from wool roving!!! I LOVE HIM!! I just want to kiss his sweet little nose! What a great talent the person was that made him.

You know.. one of the things that I've noticed lately... when I go to buy lampshades - how hard it is to find one that is just the right color, texture, etc. to make the lamp look really awesome. Know what I mean (wow ... there are some ugly lamp shades out there). So.. I found this great idea on Pinterest from the Moda Bake Shop (great...great ideas for all of us!). Here are the instructions to make this sweet thing!

And... one last one. I thought this was really cute. What a cute way to decorate a child's room... let's say you have their room decorated with Winnie-the-Pooh. Find a cute lampshade - a writing marker in a color that coordinates with the room... then write the story of Winnie-the-Pooh on the lampshade. Sound crazy... look at how cute it looks....!!!

It's not a HUGE view of the finished project... but I just thought it was pretty clever!!

What the heck... if you don't like it... simply cover it... or buy a new shade!

Hi there!!! I'm having a hard time deciding what to "blog" to you about. I have so many wonderful things it takes me forever to decide. It's like picking out a needle in a haystack...trying to find just the right thing you all would be interested in.

Well... I know you love quilting (at least I think most of you do)... so look at this sweet thing!

It's from Cathi at Quilt Obsession (that's an understatement isn't it?). I love this quilt...how she's used large florals - fussy cut into each center. Faye Heyn is going to get with me and we're going to figure out how to make this! I feel paper piecing in my future. I can't do it!! I've tried twice to learn to paper piece... I just have a mental block with it I guess. BUT... I'M NOT GIVING UP! I will CONQUER this techniqu!

When we get more information on the process...we'll share with all of you. Maybe we can talk Faye into teaching a class at Cinnamon's Quilt Shoppe! That's even better!

Good Morning! Happy Monday! Did you have a great weekend? I sure did!!!

I have an awesome decorating tip to share with you... that you can start "hunting" for NOW - then you'll be ready for spring. Check out this beautiful flower box!

This is a rattan/wicker suitcase - you can find them all of the time in flea markets and antique stores - CHEAP!! They have spray painted it white and then filled it full of beautiful flowers and plants. Lining the inside with a plastic bag would be a great idea to protect the wicker longer. This would be so pretty with several of them in a display on your patio. Heck.. you don't even have to paint them white...what about pink or light green or a soft yellow?

For you primitive girls - black, deep brown, dark navy! The sky is the limit when it comes to buying spray paint! You do want to look on the can and be sure it will adhere to wicker.. and the handle the outside elements. Happy spraying and planting! All you need is an old window and scrapbook paper - pick out the colors to match your room, paste them into place, add a hangar to the back of your window... and boom... you're finished. They've added antique door knobs to the bottom and hung a wreath to match!

Okay... how many of you are in need of a new ironing board cover? How many of you hate all of the ugly ironing board covers out there? (I swear...they pick the ugliest fabric to make them out of!) Well, now you can make your own. I know, I know... some of you are moaning. However, just think how cool your ironing board will look in your sewing room when it's dressed in some of your favorite fabric! It may even make ironing more enjoyable (now that... I want to experience..)

Look at this button project! I've decided I think it would be so cute to make one of these button necklaces to hold my scissors - a lariat!! Don't you? Plus.. to make one out of all old buttons would be the BOMB! Can you just see how jealous everyone would be? What a fun project to make with your girlfriends. This is on my "to do" list for our wool project group. I think they would love this. Here's a little tidbit of information. Did you know that no matter how BIG the button is - the holes are always in the same place??? If you took a 2" button and placed a teeny tiny button on top of it... hold it up to the light - you can see the holes line up the same! I told my husband that and he looked at me like I had 4 heads. So.. of course... I had to show him. You should have seen the look on his face! He was quite shocked and in awe that I was correct! HA! (sometimes you just have to show them things to make them understand..know what I mean?)

Look at this lamp? Is this not the most adorable thing you've ever seen? I tried to find a "project" link to make this sweet thing - but it didn't exist. This was an actual lamp that was for sale. So..... this is my idea - find a sweet lamp that is of the correct height for your sweet little dress. You can find these antique dresses in the antique stores. Buy you a cute little child's hangar with a swivel hook - place the dress on your hangar and hang from the inside of the light unit. Don't you think that would work?

I just think it would be so sweet in a little girls room. Or.. how about finding a cute little boys sailor suit and do the same thing... change the lamp shade to blue or red, hang the sailor suit on the lamp... and now you have a cute addition to a little boys room. LOVE THIS IDEA!!

Good Morning to you... Good Morning to you... with bright smiling faces...we're all in our places...

Have you ever heard this song before? My hubby... Jack... his mom - used to sing it to him when she would wake him up for school. NOW... he does the same thing to me... and I'll admit... IT DRIVES ME NUTS - even though I understand he is doing it out of love - especially when he's bringing me a fresh cup of hot yummy coffee!!

I'm not sure why I started the blog this way... the song just came to my head - as Jack brought me a cup of coffee to the computer. Whew... I wonder where these thoughts come from sometime... don't you?

Today... is a great day! Saturday - LOVE THEM!! I'm not sure what I'm doing today - but I can pretty much guarantee it's almost NOTHING.. except sew. I can never get tired of sewing.

Don't you just want to pick me up and snuggle with me? I can just feel his sweet little warm body in my hand... and love that puppy smell... !! I could just give him a sweet little pat on his bottom. ((giggle))

Here's a cool thing I found on Pinterest!! What a great way to decorate your yard for a big party!! Especially with the stars at a big 4th of July family picnic!! It's FLOUR! (pray for no rain)

Remember when we had the stars on the floor at the Olde Green Cupboard? For those of you that were never in the store.. we had green stars painted in different areas on the floor throughout the sales floor. Every once in awhile we would have the "bell" ringing special. If we rang a bell, you had to find a star and step on it fast! They were all numbered. We would then draw a number and you could win a prize or a discount! Oh My.. was it ever fun. You've never seen such a group of "crazies" in your life... they looked like ants scurrying over a picnic blanket! What fun!

I'm getting ready for an upcoming "hooking" retreat... can't wait. it's so much fun to be with the girls and just relax and hook! Look at this cool purse I found! I WANT IT!!!

It looks like it would go fast. My friend, Katie, could have it drawn up in no time. I'll show it to her at retreat! She'll like it too! If you've always wanted to learn to hook, Katie is your girl. She has a studio here in Jacksonville and she teaches classes! It's a hobby you will LOVE!

Most gals think that hooking is only for rugs. NOT!! You should see the cool things the gals make at these retreats. It's simply breath-taking. Look at this cute fellow... wow... do I ever want to make him. I'm asking Katie to duplicate this bad boy. He's going to be MINE! What a great project to make and it can be an heirloom - pass it down though your family.

Have you ever sewn on a Singer Featherweight sewing machine? I'm sewing on mine now and I'll tell you.. when I push on the petal it makes my heart sing. Now I know this is probably crazy to many of you.. .but until you've sewn on one... you'll never understand. EVERY woman that loves to sew needs to own one of these sweet things. They normally are in black or white...but look at this sweet thing!!

Now... ask me if I would love this RED one... DUH!!! The answer would be YES, YES, YES!!

There are great shops (or private owners) that service the machines... then they have them custom painted! I was sewing with a gal at Cinnamon's the other day that had one pained blue and orange (with flames on it)! Now that was something else! Whhhoooiiieeeee!!! It was cool.

Hey.. look what other wonderful thing I found. How many of you have rings that have been handed down to you in your family... rings that have been given to you that you no longer wear (out of style for your likes today, too small... too big... ). Well, now you can make it into a darling bracelet. This is a single "stand" but would look also cute with multiple rings hooked together for a 'double' strand look. You can find all of the "findings" (that's jewelry terminology...so I've recently learned) at any craft store. All kind of "jump rings", clasps... you get to pick your favorite. Then with some needle nose pliers - you are in business!! I can't wait to get going on my collection!!

How cool???? Instead of having them just sit in the jewelry box - get them into a bracelet. I think it's great the way they mixed the silver and gold together...now they'll match whatever color ring(s) you wear also. I am so doing this..... (another thing on my 'to do' list)

Organization... gotta love it! WOW... check out these two ideas!

Do you have stairs in your house? Is it like "pulling teeth" to have everyone take their items up to their rooms? Well, here is your solution! Now... I don't have stairs... but I do have things that are never in the right room - know what I mean? I've decided I'm going to put these in my laundry room too. I have a long shelf above my washer and dryer and everything gets stuck up there (it gets so ugly). SO... I'm hitting the craft store (Hobby Lobby has great baskets) or World Market and finding just the right size for my shelf. Then we can hide detergent, softener, dryer sheets, and still have a couple extra baskets - one for Jack (undies), one for me... one for misc. junk that always ends up in the laundry room... I see a shopping trip in my near future! (don't forget to measure your step depth - or shelf depth to make sure you get an accurate size basket)

I'm so doing this!

Good Thursday morning! The week is half over and I'm so behind!!! I have 14 million things going on in my life (all because I "lite" too many fires) and I can't see the end of the tunnel. Why do I do this to myself??? ANSWER: because I'm a "nut case"! I just have to stay busy ... ha!!! That's an understatement for me!

However, I'm making a list - and checking things off... just like SANTA!! Coming up in a few days is a wonderful traditional rug hooking retreat that I attend here in Jacksonville. My friend (Katie) and her mom (Judy) are the sponsors - here at Embassy Suites on Baymeadows Rd.

We have a GIANT room full of 5-7 teachers and women (and a few men) everywhere "hooking"! HA!! Then there is the WOOL ... everywhere you look ... WOOL! (another one of my passions)

So.. I'm trying to get all of my equipment, projects, etc. in a giant pile for that event. My instructor - Diane Kelly - loves primitive hooking so I'm in luck. She will be helping me with my new design - a large wool hooked bag! On one side is a FOX and on the other side is a HARE. I've started the fox but now I need her expertise in working on the HARE. This bag will be awesome when finished (when that will be... God only knows!). It will turn heads when I walk in a room with it. (that's what Katie told me). So... I'll try to take some pictures at the retreat and show you my progress!

Look at this funny dog!!! I thought this was a pretty great "happy" picture for the middle of January... especially for all of you that have snow in your area! Isn't this a hoot? He's having a blast! That's what life is all about - having a GOOD TIME!

Remember how we talked in earlier postings about collecting things? Well... I don't have many of these - but they are a passion.... Look at the collection of these awesome suitcases !!!

Don't you wish "things" could talk and tell their history? Just think how many more zillion history books we would have in the world.

Then... there are these bad boys...

Suitcases... let me tell you a story about the kind in this picture. Years ago we (Vicky, Heather, and I) had this bright idea to collect these cool cases from the antique shops. They were all very reasonably priced - we could pack them with all of our fabric, kits, etc. and haul them to our quilt shows. Then we could use them in our displays!

When we would unload our van(s) and pile all of these up on our dollies and head into the convention center - EVERYONE would look at us! I wish I had a dollar for every time someone said something to us about how "cool" they were... and how many times people wanted to buy them! NO.... DO NOT TOUCH OUR SUITCASES!! ha!

To this day... I still look for them in antique stores and they are almost extinct. Every decorator in the world has snatched them up. I still have several from the store that I use in the house and I still LOVE THEM!!

Here's another decorating tip that I love!

PLATES.... lots of them!!

Look at the beautiful brown transfer ware -

Brown and BLUE transfer ware are simply gorgeous. You can find them in antique stores... then - once you have a nice collection, look what you can do with them!

Now how pretty is this? Antique brown transfer ware on a tan wall - that compliment the drapery. I think it's stunning. I have blue transfer ware on the walls in my sewing room! White ironstone pieces in my kitchen. It's an inexpensive way to decorate and looks lovely! PLUS... it's just SO FUN to collect.

I was clicking on Pinterest the other day (heck... I do it every day... MANY TIMES) and I found this antique quilt that I have always wanted to make. So... I'm drafting each of the blocks on EQ (Electric Quilt software). Once I have all of the blocks finished- this sweet thing will be purring on my sewing machine. I'm adding my initials in the corner and the year. Don't you just love it?

Then... in keeping with the idea of "organizing" I saw this clever trick to help keep your cupboards a little more manageable! It's simple tension curtain rods.

I thought this was brilliant and was pouting because once again.. I feel ignorant that I couldn't have thought of this brilliant idea. It can work in any storage area that you have ... in the kitchen, linen closet, garage, pantry. Heck...there may be a MAD run on small tension rods at your local Walmart or Target! Watch out!

This post may be a bit strange... but I just can't help myself! You see... I've been listening to the weather and it's STILL WINTER OUT THERE FOLKS! It's somewhat hard to remember that when you live in Florida. When looking through things to chat with you about - I decided - we need to stick with "winter topics". I just have to... I can't give up the snowmen and winter projects just yet! So... to start off this "winter blog"... how about this cute little fellow?

Don't you love his little wave? I picked this "happy" photo of this sweet puppy... because? He's WHITE and he reminds me of the SNOW that we never see here in Florida (I can't even remember the last time it snowed...)

Plus... I wanted to share this sign - it's one of my absolute favorites and I think it should hang up all year long!!

Doesn't this just say it all? JOY should be shared all through the year. Man I wish I could get my hands on this bad boy... it would be MINE!! LOVE IT!!!

And then...check out this sweet idea! I was going to make these for my granddaughters (the little ones - Eden and Lexie) and then I thought... "what are you thinking... it's not COLD enough here to even wear these things?! DARN IT!! So.. you make them (for those of you that live in cold country).

Now how cute are they? Find cute hats, mittens and a scarf - go to your local craft store and find pretty jingle bells. Stitch them on - and BINGO... you have an adorable holiday set ! Can't you just see someone wearing this while they are ice skating? So sweet! Now.. if they ice skate like I do (falling down - A LOT!!) they would really be "jingling"!

I remember skating at our grandparents in the winter (they lived at the lake). OMG... my first pair of skates (our grandparents bought for us) were so wonderful... all nice and white. They were so BIG (they wanted them to last more than one winter) we had to stuff socks in the toes. But we didn't care... we were so happy. HOURS and hours we would skate (actually fell more than skated). We found some wonderful OLD metal lawn chairs (the kind that DID not fold up). We pushed them on the ice while holding on until we could skate without their aid.

Remember "fox and the hound"? Did you ever play that game? We loved it when there was a faint layer of snow on the ice. We would take the snow shovel and make trails all over the place. Then one of us would be the fox and the other the hound - and skate in the paths - chasing each other. Wow... what memories. The lake would be "cracking" (Grandpa said it was freezing) and it would scare us to death. The ice would be so thick on the lake he could hardly drill through it to go ice fishing. I always wondered how those poor fish lived in that freezing cold water...bbbbrrrr....

I loved spending time at my grandparents... skating in the winter and swimming and fishing in the summer... making barbie clothes, eating Grandma's homemade chocolate pie, eating ice cream and watching Perry Mason (wow did I love his smile...even as a little girl! Grandma and Grandpa used to laugh and tease me about him...), eating home made fried potatoes for breakfast. Gosh I loved them so much... memories... that's what it is all about. I can't wait to get to Heaven and be with them again. Memories with my granddaughters is what it's all about!!! Ok... I'm moving on to a new topic...getting to "teary-eyed".

Here are three more "winter decorations" that I just had to share with you.

This little bottle brush tree has been set down inside a sweet thimble. The thimble looks a bit larger than normal... but I still thought it would be a fun thing to make!!

Now... how sweet is this? It's simply the wire greenery - shaped into a star, with a red bow, a few berries and then the name tag attached. It's cute as a place setting tag but also for packages!!

Now that you've thrown out the junk in your junk drawer(s) - organize what is left. Do you need to buy some dividers (silverware tray - plastic containers..) to make it stay in order? If so.... do it! It's such a relief to have an organized JUNK DRAWER (doesn't that sound weird?)

Ok...I'll admit it! I'm a craft freak! Yes..I always have been. My mother was always working on something - knitting, crocheting, sewing, cutwork, painting... her hands were never still! Thanks MOM! I'm so glad I inherited these skills from you.

So.. with that in mind... I have to show you some of my favorite ideas that I am putting into place! First... so easy - for all of us. Look at this basket display.

so... for those of you that know me personally, it's not any wonder I love this display! BASKETS are my passion and to pair them up with IVY (which is another of my loves) it's just too much to handle! I can't wait to find some of these bad boys. I'm thinking World Market will be a great place to look. I was just in there last night...rats... I wish I would have thought to look at that time. I'm going to set them on top of my antique cabinet with nice lamp... yum!

Wait until you see what I bought! It is so darn cool, I know all of you will want them (for those of you that like to bake cookies..that is!) Check out these cookie cutters!

Are they not adorable? I got the star and the flower - the hearts were already GONE (the nerve of those shoppers). They are only $1.29 each and the recipe for the sugar cookie is on the back of the package. I ssssssssssssooooooooooooo can't wait to try them. I got mine at World Market.

Here's something else I'm going to try. Ok.. imagine this - take some bread - cut out the star cookies - an even number of them... let's say 12! Lie them on a cookie sheet - brush with butter and sprinkle with garlic salt and some parsley(on both sides). Put them under your broiler until crispy brown on one side - turn over and brown the other side. Let them cool.

Take two of the stars and join them at the slit area (where it would sit on your cup). Place a couple of these sets on top of a yummy Caesar salad - you have 3D croutons! Doesn't it sound like it will work? Well, I'm trying it today... I simply must! I went to sleep last night thinking of all different ways to use these sweet things! I'll let you know the results.

Here is a mixture of my passions!! Wire baskets (antique ones are the best), birds, wool, and antique string balls/spools. Are you scratching your head wondering where all of these "likes" come from? I have NO CLUE... but I know I love them! This little bird is all sketched out in my sewing room and it will take no time to stitch him from my wool scraps. Then... while I'm in World Market - I'm looking at their wire baskets. I have just the place where I'm sitting this sweet thing!

Isn't this a fabulous red chair. Here's the trick! The flowers are FOAM... you know the foam shapes you can buy at the craft stores? Pick out your favorite shapes, glue them onto your chair (or whatever you are working with) and paint over them. I would not recommend they be used on something that will get alot of high "traffic" (from children). The next time I'm in Michaels or Joann, Etc. I will be taking a look at what they have. These would also be cute on a frame - then paint the color of your choice. The possibilities are endless!

Is this not cool or what? Can you tell what it is? It's a photo holder... you simply use soft wire, find a prescription bottle - wrap the wire around the bottle to get the above shape - turn the tip (it may be sharp if not) and then stick this bad boy down into anything that you love. Here's a different sample....

Simply drill two small holes into the end of a wooden spool - insert a small amount of glue and pop in your wire. Then pick out your favorite recipe or photo and insert between the wire curves. It's a great way to have name tags for dinners, label your food at a buffet - use in your store with information on a product, hold price tags.... is your mind working???

I'm going to experiment with this same concept only on a very small scale... I have a fun project in mind. I'll have to make a couple and then show you... (don't you love the suspense?)

Is this not unbelievable??? Can you imagine being a photographer and capturing this picture. It took my breath away... so awesome. Can you wonder what in the heck that lady bug is thinking right now?

I know Christmas is over.. but I just can't help myself. Look what I just found on Pinterest!!

I must make one of these fellows. I already have some snowmen and/or Santas that will work. Does anyone know where I can find one of these tins? Be right back... I'm going to ebay to take a peak! .......time laps............ Found one.. but it's a short fellow!

It's only 6" tall... just won't have the right POW ! I'll keep looking. If anyone of you find one, let me know!!

Plus... even though Christmas is over, I think I will keep sending you cute ideas, etc. You can trash them or keep them for future reference. It's just to sad to wait until December to share. Just too, too, many fun things to see!

Happy Monday! Do you like Mondays? Gosh.. I simply used to dread them years and years ago (when I worked at the bank...). Then when I had the Olde Green Cupboard - I couldn't wait to get into the store and "fondle" the fabric (HA!! Those of you that quilt and sew.. totally understand that comment!). Plus.. I missed the "girls" (my employees) and it was so fun to be with them. Then.. the customers - oh how I loved visiting with them, looking at all of their cool, new projects.

Now.. Monday's seem like every other day - I LOVE THEM ALL! I'm telling you... this retirement is THE BESTEST OF THE BEST!! (sorry... to those of you that are still working..)

Every morning I grab my coffee and head to the computer. I spend sometime reading my favorite blogs, email, and then Pinterest! Then it's time to post on MY BLOG! It's only been 9 days - and I'm still lovin' to share with all of you.

Speaking of sharing... I came across this awesome site for "FONTS". So many times I've seen such cool font styles on projects, signs, etc. and I've always asked myself - "where do they find those?" I think I've found the answer!!! Take a peak!!

These are pockets from MENS SHIRTS!!! I thought they were so cool... I'm thinking of making a few (going to Goodwill to find some cool shirts) and use them for cute little gift bags for my friends! Then.. the rest of the shirt - I'm going to cut up into 2" blocks - save a bunch of them and use in a quilt! Look at all of these colors together - aren't they awesome.. I just think it would make an adorable quilt. Don't worry about making those button holes! Only ONE button actually works - sew the others on for decoration only! If you can't find men's shirts with the flap button - make one from the CUFF!!! Be creative!

Makes 1/4 cup

Ingredients:
2 tbsp. chopped Italian flat leaf parsley
1 tbsp. minced garlic
1 tsp. dried thyme
1 tsp. dried oregano
1/4 tsp. dried basil (or 1 tbsp. fresh-if using fresh reduce parsley to 1 tbsp.)
1/8 tsp. dried rosemary (or 1/2 tsp. fresh)
1 tsp ground black pepper
1/2 tsp. kosher salt
1/8 tsp. ground red pepper (or 1/4 tsp. red pepper flakes)
1/2 tsp. extra virgin olive oil
1/8 tsp. fresh lemon juice

Directions:
Place all ingredients except olive oil & lemon in a blender or food processor and chop until all ingredients are similar in size. Stir in the olive oil & lemon juice.
For Serving:
In a small dish, place 1 1/2 tsp. spice mixture. Pour 3-4 tbsp. extra virgin olive oil over top of the spice mixture. Serve with french bread for dipping

Ok... I'm in the "cleaning bug mode"!! These days come few and far between lately! I came across this great little idea (of course... from Pinterest!) that I wanted to share with you! Why.. oh... why... I can't think of these ideas - I have NO IDEA!! However, I'm glad someone did. How many of you have OLD, OLD, OLD Christmas wrapping paper - you know - those rolls that you've stored in the garage or attic?

I'm not sure what got over me one year... but I went crazy on buying after Christmas SALE wrapping paper. I think some of the rolls I still have must be 5 - 7 years old! Now..here's the deal.. when you store them in the hot garage attic they get a little "crispy-brittle" and when you try to wrap with them.. well... just forget it! Everything rips up! So.. here's the answer to that situation... SHRED!!!!

Yes... simply take all of that old paper to your shredder and "go to town". It's wonderful to keep in a plastic bag (in the house) and to use in gift wrapping, storing glassware, shipping cookies... you name it! PLUS.. you are re-purposing!! I was just so proud of myself for NOT throwing out the rolls of paper!

Take a peak at this clever little idea - I shared this with my hubby (who seems to boil over every pot he uses...)! Is this not clever? Wooden spoons... I must have a million of them. MY DH (darling hubby) used to put them in my Christmas stocking EVERY YEAR. Now... it's not that I'm not grateful.. I LOVE wooden spoons. However - If I stacked them all up on top of each other... staggered and offset them a bit - I think I could build a "log cabin" wall doll house for my grandchildren. Can you tell I have LOTS OF THEM? So... try it.. you'll be shocked at how well it works!

Don't have any wooden spoons or forks... CALL ME... I'll share with you! HA!!

Ok.. I have 2 feel good photos today... one is so sweet... and the other one will jerk your heart out! It was too hard to decide... I just had to let you see both!

First... "so sweet" -

Is this not soooooooooooooooo precious???? Brought tears to my eyes!

And then this... it simply says it all. Why our servicemen and women do what they do! I can so relate to this photo - my son, Toby, was 6 weeks old before his Daddy got to see or hold him. That was during the Vietnam War era.... I'll never forget that day.. when Jack looked at him for the first time - afraid to hold him - but wanting to so bad...

Love your children - love our military - we are what we are today - FREE - because of the sacrifice they and their families go through. I know this has been said a million times - maybe you are tired of hearing it... but TRUST ME ... until you live in these shoes - you have no idea of the many days and nights of terror, loneliness, and heartache these men and women go through for us.

They have a vintage - antique look in Americana Colors! The creme paint is AWESOME. So.. I've put them in the "TO DO' Que - it just seems to be growing - NOT SHRINKING!!

Do you love magnets? Let me tell you how I feel about them. I love them... but for some reason I just can't handle them all over my refrigerator! I don't know why... I can't explain it... I just don't. I know that millions of people do.. it's just one of those things that look "unorderly" to me... too messy... I don't know... can't explain it.

I don't care at all that my sock drawer is a mess, my "undies" drawer is a mess... the "what not" drawer in the kitchen is a mess... but just NOT the front of my refrigerator!

However... that does NOT stop me from LOVING COOL MAGNETS!! Look at these!!

An old lock...how cool is this?

My daughter Heather will love this one...she loves old locks and keys.

Now this is cool! It looks like they have chopped up a wooden yard stick - rounded the corners with some sand paper, stained it... glued a magnet to the back and BOOM... you've got an awesome magnet. What fun gifts to make for your sewing friends... Plus... add the one below and you'll be a great hit!

What about this bad boy! OMG... all of us that love sewing... just use the cap from an antique spool of thread! I MUST make some of these!!

So... you may be asking.. if I don't like magnets all over the front of my refrigerator... why in the heck do I even want any? Good question. You know.. it's just one of those things you MUST have in your life (as least mine)... cool magnets. So I have them on the side of my refrigerator... all nicely displayed. I know, I know... I'm a bit strange in this area...

Here's a cute idea I found on Pinterest for organization and "art" in your bathroom. Have you... or do you live in a house where you have NO storage in your bathroom? Maybe you have a pedestal sink, no under sink cabinet - no linen closet in the bathroom. NO WALL SPACE for any towel racks ... here's an anwer to your towel storage/display. I think this is so pretty. Just imagine it with towels in the shades that may match your shower curtain, rugs or wall paint. Inexpensive baskets did the trick!

Good Morning!!

How is your New Year going? Mine is just super so far!!

I spent the evening with some of my quilting buddies last night...what a bunch of nuts these gals are! It's such great fun to sew, eat, and laugh... and see the talents of everyone. I go there with one project (or two... or three....) that I'm working on and before the night is over I HAVE MORE OF THEM IN THE WORKS! What's up with that anyway?

Well... one of the goodies we had for dinner came from Eleana and is it ever good! LOOK ....

Is this too cute???? I burst out laughing when I saw this on the internet!!

Ok... here is a question... How many of you hate the counter paper towel holders? I DO... and I HAVE ONE! The silly thing always seems to be in the way.. and I STILL (to this day) can't decide where in the heck I want it to live on the counter!

By the stove?

By the sink?

By the coffee pot? (you know... where you always need a towel to wipe up the mess when you pour a cup of coffee - because for some reason, coffee pot manufacturers just can't figure out the correct shape of the pot spout so it doesn't dribble all down the pot and onto the counter when pouring your first cup in the morning. What's up with that anyway? Pour slow...no... pour fast...no! I give up!)

Then there is the under the cabinet paper towel holder... those just don't work for me either. Well...then I saw this bad boy and "I'm in love"! Is this not the coolest idea ever? It's designed to go into one of those dead spaces that always appear in the kitchen drawer area. I LOVE THIS!!! Now if I can just talk my honey into helping me make it happen! Pray for me!

Aren't I adorable? My daughter, Heather, made her! I just want to pick her up and give her a squeeze. If you haven't seen her handmade creations.... take a peak! Oh... let me tell you a story about "Buster". Heather's Mohair Friends

Heather's church friends had a real bunny - "Buster" that was a family pet.. EVERYONE loved Buster. Well, he died and they were heart broken. They had his little ashes at home... then Heather got the wonderful idea for them. She asked for a picture of "Buster" - from which she made this likeness of him. (the family said it looks JUST LIKE HIM...). When they came to pick up Buster... they were all in tears at the first site of him. She gave them buster with his tummy still not completely sewn shut. Here they tucked his little ashes... Heather stitched him up... and now they have a loving memory of their wonderful pet! Isn't that the coolest thing ever? I tell you what.. that daughter of mine just blows my mind with her great ideas!!

Here's another sweet SPRING idea I found... look at this bouquet of flowers!

Isn't this sweet, fresh and beautiful? When I saw the picture on the computer I could feel myself SMILE! I love daisies... and with carrots too??? How could that be a bad thing?

Today is a SEWING day... I'm so excited. I'm working on a NEW design and it's all I can do to pull myself away from the sewing machine. Don't you love working on quilts or sewing projects like that? I'm still on the blocks...but they are almost finished... then I have some 36 square blocks to make for some of the alternating blocks. ooohhh..... sssseeewwwww exciting!

I'll post some photos this week of my progress!

Here's your organization tip of the day!

Go through your freezer - throw out freezer burn food, OLD food, food that you know you will never cook!!!

ahhhh.... feels to good to purge... LOVE IT! It's kind of a cleansing feeling.....

So.... I've now cleaned out my ENTIRE cabinet that holds my spices, my baking supplies, and on the top shelf... booze!!! You know.... I'm now getting the hang of this "daily" organization deal. Yep... you have the intentions of doing just the ONE THING and before you know it... an hour has gone by and you've accomplished MORE than you thought you would. LOVE IT!!!

Plus...while up there on the step stool - I looked at the top of my refrigerator!! OMG!!! I think I could have grown potatoes up there... DUST, DUST, DUST... I'm kind of glad I can't see up there on a daily basis...ick! HOWEVER... it's nice and shiny now... Thank heavens for paper towels and Windex!

How many of you had old spices?? NOT ME!! (yea...right!)

Here is our "happy" photo for the day... isn't this the sweetest site? Makes me tear up! The love of a mother is so sweet...even in our sweet little lambs!!!

Then... I was reading one of those sites that has all of the "tricks" to cleaning, etc. Here is one I've never seen or heard of before. I'll admit... I haven't tried it yet...but I just had to share it with you. So cool! Plus.. one more thing I heard about Vanilla - it's the most popular scent that men like. Did you know that?

Vanilla Extract 101 - Clean the microwave and leave it smelling sweet with this household trick! Mix 2 cups of water and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract in a microwave-safe container, and zap it on high for five minutes. When it's done, remove the container and wipe down the interior of the oven. Any gunk should slide right off.

Then.... check out this gorgeous vase of flowers!!! I WANT THIS!!! The glass vase doesn't even have to be this fancy!!! So precious...so feminine... even using beautiful silk flowers would be gorgeous!

And last...here is a great craft project... that anyone can do! You can buy these leather handles in craft stores... OR... I've even seen where leather belts can be purchased and used for handles. Love this idea ... such a great country, shabby chic, and cottage look . If you know of someone that loves baskets (THAT WOULD BE ME!), make this quick project and give to them for their birthday!

Organization Tip For The Day:

Put your cans together on a can shelf in your panty! Put all the fruit together, vegetables, soups! Turn all labels to the front. Now... if you are really ambitious... you can put each category in alphabetical order! (nnnnaaaahhhh... that's a bit too much!)

If you are a person that has TONS of canned goods, it will be fun to hear how many cans you have of ONE thing. In our panty... we had 7 cans of sloppy joe mix. Do you know how long it's going to take to eat all of that? Whew.... I've now shown my hubby how it's going to be on the can shelf! He just looked at me and laughed! I'm not sure what the laugh was for.... me being silly about the cans... or because he knows he won't remember to do it. hhhmmm....

Okay...we're 4 days into the blogging ... and I'm even more excited than when I dreamed up the idea. Of course...you know this isn't new... thousands (probably hundreds of thousands) of people BLOG every day. However, I'm going with the fact that I woke up from a dream with this fun revelation! HA!

Today ... fun stuff!! Hey... remember that sauce that you get with the "Bloomin' Onion" ? I've been sent a recipe for it. That's on my TO DO LIST this week - to make this bad boy and try it out. Actually... I don't need a "Bloomin' Onion" to eat this sauce. I could pour it into a cup and just drink the stuff! That's how much I LOVE IT!!

I even went to my local grocery store to get some canning jars - THEY WERE ALL GONE! Someone has beaten me to the punch! Although.. I've been told they sell so many during the holiday season (using for luminaries, filling with cookie ingredients for gifts, etc.) that they ran out. So... I'll give it a few weeks and try again. After all...canning season will be here before we know it. Do you can?

Speaking of canning... when we were kids we lived on a farm (in Indiana). Our garden was as big as a football field (I'm sure this is an exaggeration...but it seemed this big). Our mother CANNED EVERYTHING! I just wish.. I had a $1.00 for every corn husk I stripped, pea pod I opened, bean I snapped... I could pay off the National Debt! Our basement was FULL of canned goods... that we would eat all year long. Fruit... let me tell you... she could do more canning (in different ways) with a bushel of apples than you could even imagine. She even bought 1/2 beef (shared with their friends) and canned beef. WOW.. did it make the best beef and noodles! YUM! Ah... the childhood days... ya gotta' love 'em! Memories..... I'm all for making memories with my children and grandchildren too! Such fun!

How about this sweet little fella? Don't you just want to pick him up and snuggle?

I simply LOVE these little fellas. One of my old friends (which I haven't seen in years!) Debbie... brought in her new puppy to the Olde Green Cupboard one day to meet all of us. Oh My... I fell in love immediately. That was the cutest little thing I had seen in a long time. I remember him/her(?) scampering up and down the checkout counter...so darn cute! I'm giving this little fella a name... how about "Tippy"? Looks fitting the way he "tips" his little head so cute.... (((snuggle))) Doesn't he make you smile and feel happy???

Now...this is a wonderful idea! I know this looks mainly like scrapbook projects... but it works SUPER with quilt/sewing projects TOO! I have on hand the one and TWO gallon size bags. EVERYTHING (including the book or pattern) goes into the bag... templates, fabric, wool, special threads, embellishments. Then I put a label on the bag - OR I place the front of the pattern on top - so I can see it - FIRST THING - when I look at the hanging bag. Attach to pants/skirt hangars AND put them in priority order - LEFT TO RIGHT (or whatever works for you).

For those projects that have material, etc. that will be simply too much for a bag - I use plastic containers with lids. Watch for them to go on sale! BUY a bunch!! Place the contents of your project in the container - label the front (removable sticky labels) and stack in the order you want to finish them (subject to change on the spur of the moment)

BINGO ... you will feel so much better knowing that you have things organized and even better when you finish a project. The site of empty bins and plastic bags doesn't happen often with me! Why? I just find additional projects I want to do and fill those bad boys back up again! aaahhh... will it ever end? I HOPE NOT!!

OK... speaking of projects... it's time to move on and get the heck busy!

So... have you been following your New Year's resolutions? Did you make any? I DIDN'T! I'll be honest.. I don't follow them anyway... so why set myself up for disappointment? Sounds logical to me... free as the wind!

Have you taken down your Christmas decorations? Wow... that is one job I DO NOT LIKE. I'll be honest.. I'm VERY GROUCHY when it comes to takin' down, wrappin' up, packin'... it just isn't my thing.

PLUS.. .this year I made a promise to my hubby (why I did this... I have no idea!) that I would go through ALL of the decorations and slim them down quite a great deal. It's so hard.. some years you feel like decorating more than other years.. so you hate to "purge" anything!

Hhhhmmm.... I wonder if I could disguise some of the decorations in different boxes... maybe he would think it's some of his Mother's stuff that she left the family (you know..the things you don't want to get rid of because you would feel guilty...but you have NO use for them.. let alone like the stuff!). Now that could be a plan... I'll have to think more on that concept.

I'm so excited... since I have been "pinning", I have found the most wonderful quilts, techniques, ideas...it's just mind boggling.

Look at this pretty, awesome block! Is it not gorgeous? I was showing some of the girls how to "pin" at a quilting retreat not too long ago and I came across this beauty. I did my research, found the ruler on the Internet, called the quilt shop that sold it... told all the girls in the room.. and placed an order for 16 rulers with the quilt shop owner. She was so happy!

Then I found out where to purchase them wholesale (for Karen @ Cinnamon's Quilt Shoppe here in town). Now she'll be carrying the rulers so they will be easy for all of you to find!

WAIT.. I'm not finished...here's another beauty I'm making. I'm putting wool on the inside - with the outer edge to coordinate with the shades of wool. I'm then going to use the octagons to be the border on a long table runner I'm designing! It's so easy and FUN!! These are called "Hickory Nuts" and Karen (Cinnamon's Quilt Shoppe) will be carrying these also.

I think I'm going to offer these two technique classes on the 2nd quarter calendar at Cinnamon's. If you live in the Jacksonville area... keep watching the website and the calendar!

I am so excited about this idea... I have MANY cut out and ready to stitch... I work on them while watching TV in the evenings... so it's hard to tell when I'll have enough ready to get started on my new creation. I'm on a mission... step back... or get sewn in the stitches! HA!

One last thing... I MUST MAKE THESE LITTLE PIGGIES! Are they not the cutest things you've ever seen? Don't you just want to pop one of them in your mouth. They made me giggle when I saw them .... I just had to share with you. Kids would love to help make these! I don't have the receipe or instructions... but how hard can these be to make. (round biscuit for head, cut out dough ears and snout, two cloves or large seeds for eyes, two little pieces of spice for nostrils.. maybe brush them together with a little egg wash.. experiment... before you know it... you may be making the entire ZOO from bread dough...HA!)

Happy January 2, 2012 !!

Wow... I have so many things to share with you... I'm having trouble deciding... I thought I would begin each blog with a sweet photo.. .one that will make your heart happy... first thing in the morning... How about this sweet one? He's saying..."aaahhhhh... if only I could get through this window...."

Is this little fellow not adorable??? When I first saw this picture... I burst out laughing. I remember when my twin sister, Vicky, and I were little....! We were at our grandparents - at the lake - and had been digging for worms to go fishing. All of a sudden the shovel hit something a little hard.... maybe a rock? We turned over the dirt and to our surprise... TONS OF BABY TURTLES THAT HAD JUST HATCHED! They were adorable box turtles... the size of a quarter... and they were crawling everywhere. Well... you can just imagine the squealing that came from both of us. We ran up to the house and got Grandma! She helped us rescue them ... some went back into the lake.. and several we kept for us and our friends. I loved my turtle...

Then... when I lived in Eagle Harbor... my nephew - Peter... he found a teeny, tiny baby turtle on the golf course. He brought it home and Vicky and I were instantly taken back to the day - digging in the garden. We kept the little fellow in a turtle dish until he got large enough to let loose. It was sad...praying he wouldn't be prey to another animal. I wonder where he is today? Do you think he remembers us? Childhood memories... ya gotta love 'em!

Now...this is clever! I can't tell you how many casserole dishes I've taken to events and forget the silly thing!! Does that happen to you? Or...they bring them to my house... they forget to take it with THEM... and I have NO IDEA who to call and let them know! This little project can solve that issue. This is only the beginning of what you can do with "glass engraving"!! Have FUN!!

JANUARY 1 - HAPPY NEW YEAR'S DAY!!

Well... here we are - another wonderful year has passed and we're moving on to 2012. How many months will it take you to write the correct year? It seems to take me forever...MONTHS!!

Remember when I blogged about a BIG COMMITMENT to send you something new and fun each DAY for 2012??? Today is the FIRST DAY!! Gosh.. this is huge for me... sending something each day will be a great way for me to:

1. Plan ahead
2. Be very disciplined!
3. Keep my creative juices flowing (that will NOT be hard to do)
4. Try and get more sleep... this idea has kept me awake quite a bit lately

Then.. you will all enjoy the fun things I've found that I can share with you!

This just has to make you smile... even if you are not a lover of kitties!!! These two little fellows remind me of the kittens we found abandoned in our back yard this past summer... looks JUST LIKE THEM! They have both been adopted... sure do miss them!

Good Morning!!! Have you all survived? Are you still eating leftovers? (we are...love them...)

I've had a few days to rest after the BIG DAY and I'm feeling much better. Whew...I was a tired girl there for a couple of days.

I'm going to Cinnamon's Quilt Shoppe today to do a little sewing with many of my friends. I'm taking FUDGE with me (it must leave this house). It's such a temptation when you are dieting (of all times...during the holidays). I'm up to 29 pounds that are GONE and I don't ever want to see them again. Now... to keep on plugging away...calorie by calorie!

Have you begun your TO DO list for the new year? I have and it's VERY LONG. Oh my...it's kind of mind boggling. However, I keep telling myself it keeps me happy and younger.

I have a big quilting retreat that I'm sponsoring coming up the end of January - 160 will be in attendance!! Can you believe that? It's so amazing.. and the best part is...everyone has a ball just working on their own projects. Gosh it's nice to get UFO's done.

Then.... there is the dreaded task of taking down the tree, sorting through all of the decorations (purging this year) and packing everything up. I would rather spend all day in the dentist chair (I really LOVE my dentist...so NICE and GOOD LOOKIN" !!!) Plus... there is NO PAIN with him. Now.. the Christmas clean up... that is painful to me!

THEN... my darling husband is on this kick... "Let's Clean Out The Garage"! What's up with that? Isn't it usually the wife that harps on the husband about the garage? He wants my 'stuff' out of there so he has more room to move around. My question is... why? What does he plan on doing out there? He hasn't worked in our garage on projects in over 15 years. I'm scrathin' my head... I am clueless.

So... we have some wonderful friends that have an auction house... I'm going to get stuff ready and take to them. They specialize in antiques and primitives - and I have plenty that I am no longer attached too... so it's time to say "good-bye".

I'm off to get my sewing packed up and head out!

Good Morning... Today is December 24 - Christmas Eve Day. Have you ever had one of those nights when you tossed and turned because you knew you had a million things to do the next day. Yepper... that was my night last night! I lay in bed... making a mental list of things to do. However, if your memory is anything like mine... I know when I get up in the morning I will have forgotten half of what was to be on my list. So.... it's better to just get up and make the list - WRITE IT DOWN! That was my intention this morning at 3:30 am. Once I did that I thought to myself...hhhmmm... it sure would taste great to have a cup of coffee! That was it.. I've been up ever since and it's now 7:50 am.

It's amazing what I can get done in the morning. I have already answered tons of email, read my Pinterest Posts (love them!) baked oatmeal raisin cookies, 2 loads of laundry, made deviled eggs, cleaned out the spice cabinet (geeze louise... some of those spices were OLD... into the garbage they went. Plus.. I found 3 bottles of vinegar - why 3 I have no idea! 2 salts, 2 ginger (hardly ever use that)..plus more weird things I won't bore you with).

Plus.... I made HOMEMADE FRENCH ONION SOUP! One of my favorite soups. I'm serving it on Christmas day... topped with a slice of yummy bread - smothered in melted cheese. I found the recipe on Pinterest. It's fabulous!!! I'll post the recipe after the holidays... you must make it. My hubby tasted it and said it was wonderful (and he doesn't lie...). Once the bread and cheese are on the top it will be SUPER!!!

AND... I've been wanting to try this new recipe ... so I have everything prepared for this evening's dinner. I used baby asparagus - wrapped with thin, thin ham then cook on the grill with olive oil. One cooked you drizzle with a balsamic vinegar/mustard recipe! I'll let you know how it turns out. (found this on Pinterest too..!) I told my hubby I felt like a chef this morning...had pots cooking on the stove, oven pumping out cookies.. FUN!! I really could be a chef... wonder if I'm too old to learn? (shake it off Gloria... you have too many irons in the fire now...)

I want to wish each of you and your family a MERRY CHRISTMAS and HAPPY NEW YEAR! I know that this year has been VERY tough for many of us, and I pray that 2012 is much better. May your hearts be filled with the love of Jesus and may you enjoy the company of your loved ones throughout this holiday season.

I've made out my "food" list for Christmas Day... I love cooking for the gang!! What's on your list? Look at these cool trees I'm making to surround my sisters "Strawberry Cake" Won't it be ooohhh....sssooo.... pretty?

I thought it would also be cool (next time) to sprinkle some edible, sparkley glitter on the trees!

I'll take a picture of our finished product and post it after Christmas.

Then.. we'll have a yummy ham, macaroni and cheese (my daughter-in-law makes the best.. FROM SCRATCH!), Potato and corn casserole, deviled eggs, baked beans, yummy rolls, pumpkin pie, FUDGE (my sister's... best in the world)!!! Plus... I'm sure I will think of several other dishes we must have!!

What's your favorite meal to fix on Christmas?

Better yet...what is your favorite Christmas memory? We were asked this at a retreat I just attended and it was so wonderful to hear the memories!

Mine... I can still see her... a sweet doll that had HAIR!! Normally our dolls were on the less expensive side...and only came with the rubber head - no actual hair. She was jointed in the shoulders and hips... kind of chubby and limp when you held her. The funny thing is.. I can still remember how wonderful she smelled... you know.. the smell of "rubber dolls". But to me... she smelled like Christmas Heaven.

Make memories with your family... especially your children and grandchildren. It's the best gift you can give each other ... and most of the time...it has no monetary value. Just love.....

Yippee... I just finished two more wool projects for our B-a-a-a-a-d Girls Club at Cinnamon's Quilt Shop here in Jacksonville! We are kicking it off this coming new year and I can't wait.

Here are my 3 finished projects that we will start with!

I put small antique pearl buttons on the center of each yellow flower !

She seeketh wool and flax and worketh willingly with her hands.

This certainly fits me doesn't it?

Maryellen's Garden - The center is wool applique - using Valdani buttonhole stitch.

Gosh, this was great fun to make!!!

It's getting quilted this week - then I'll finish the binding and it will be ready to hang in Cinnamon's Quilt Shop.

We will be kitting each of these projects ...!!

I'm now working on a new design for Cinnamon's - it's going to be a "penny rug" !!! I have the wool picked out for the "coins" around the edge... now I'm designing the wool applique center. Our background fabric is Lisa Bongean's flannel that looks like wool! The flannel and wool work so well together. Using the flannel for the large piece makes the project much more economical!

As soon as it progresses a little further... I'll give you some pictures!

Ok...now I must get busy with the Christmas decorations. My DH was so sweet and brought everything in from the garage! eeeekkkkk.... I have tub after tub that I must go through! I sure wish he had some "decorating blood" in him so he could help. However.... he was not blessed with it! Blessed with lots of other great things...but decorating... NOT!!

(this is a guy that wanted to glue jigsaw puzzles together and hang them in the bedroom the grand kids sleep in.... even the youngest granddaughter told him NO!... hahahahaha!!)

PLUS... I have Holly Table runner kits to cut, pack up all of my sewing essentials for a FUN, FILLED .... Christmas Retreat at Cinnamon's for the entire weekend! I get to be a participant this year.... YIPPEE!!!! We get to have a cookie exchange, make a stocking (that Santa is going to fill), ornament exchange, eat home cooked meals, sew, wear Christmas jammies.... I CAN'T WAIT!!!

I'm BACK............... I have returned from Atlanta where I taught for a great group of gals from the Etowah Valley Quilt Guild! 19 crazy girls that did a fantastic job with their wool project - Three's Company. Thanks girls for such a great time!

I got to stay with Tami - her house was in the sticks... but oh such a beautiful area! I had no idea the woods in Georgia could be so beautiful. Here is a picture of my gorgeous Americana bedroom that I called home for several days!

Don't you just love this bed? It was one of those REALLY high ones...the kind you need a little step stool to crawl into it. The quilt on the bed was antique!! LOVED IT! Slept like a baby!

On my way into Atlanta I just had to stop in McDonough, Georgia and visit with my friend, Karen Taylor - the owner of A Scarlet Thread. Listen... if you haven't been to this quilt shop... you are missing something HUGE! Her shop is gorgeous and so full of "eye candy" I just didn't know where to look first. Here are some photos....

Now these florals.... I just wanted to roll around in them...they were so gorgeous!!!

This is the batik section!!! Wow... was it ever wonderful!!! All of you batik lovers... you'll go nuts!!

Karen has a wonderful area in the store where she sells machines... and her favorites are the embroidery ones. See this pin? Well let me tell you...they were making a new sample while I was there... and they will knock your socks off! There is actually a software program just for these pins. You use a product in your hoop (with your fabric) while stitching. When finished stitching... you cut out the petals and then hold a steam iron over the top of the fabric (not touching). After a few spurts of steam... the flower crinkles up into these fabulous shapes!! It was AWESOME!

Then you'll see a section that is nothing but displays of gorgeous bags, purses and totes!!!

Then we have the children's clothing section!! What adorable patterns!!!

This is just a small sampling of the wonderful displays at A Scarlett Thread! If you are going North on I-75 - you must stop in. It's just a short distance from the highway and WELL WORTH THE VISIT!!!

I can see us all on the bus...singing...playing games... ha!!

I'm packin', stackin', and getting ready to head for Atlanta tomorrow morning!!

I'm teaching at one of the guilds in Atlanta - and I can't wait! It's so much fun teaching fun gals!! I'm going to show them how to make those nifty - 9 Patches (the Lisa Bongean way - Primitive Gatherings) and then we'll be using wool on raw silk to make the center of the wall hanging. I'm going to show them a different option to the applique - stitching with SILK THREAD. Sometimes you just want an simple look - no buttonhole stitching - this will do the trick!

I have my trip planned... I'm making a stop for gas only... walking around the car some... then stopping at "A Scarlett Thread Quilt Shop" in McDonough, GA. (It is so AWESOME!!! Hey.. I smell a bus trip...???) Can't wait... Karen... are you reading this??? I'm on my way!!! (I'm bringing you one of each pattern that I've designed .....as a present...)

That should put me 3/4 of the way there... that will boost my energy for the rest of the trip.

Once I get to Tami's house... I'll change clothes... go out for an early dinner and then get ready for my trunk show! The following morning it's off to the classroom! YIPPEE!!!! I have lots of tips and tricks to show the gals that will hopefully make their future wool projects more fun and easier!!!

It's already Saturday, November 13!! What has happened...where has this year gone? In just a few more days I will smell the turkey cooking in the oven and waiting anxiously for my family to arrive for our Thanksgiving dinner!! WOW... Before I know it the Christmas decorations will need to go up!

Christmas is so less stressful for me now...! When I had my store... it just seemed like the season never ended. We actually worked with the Christmas season 9 out of 12 months. Isn't that hard to believe? We went to markets in January and February, and July... then from March through May we didn't have to deal with it much. HOWEVER... then the merchandise began to arrive. You see ... in the retail world - many vendors gave you discounts if you took the merchandise EARLY (they needed their warehouses empty to get ready for the following year)... which worked great for us since our storage area was so big. Plus it gave us plenty of time to price and plan our displays.

So.. now that is gone from my life... I get a little shocked when I walk into the stores and SEE CHRISTMAS!! It actually brings a tear to my eye and sadness in my heart. I loved my store and I loved the holiday seasons. Seeing customers happy and shopping for their homes and families warmed my heart. PLUS.. making the displays was SO MUCH FUN. Now.. my sister, Vicky, well.. she was my floor design manager and she is so relieved it's OVER! NO MORE STRESS !!!

I've just been visiting some of my favorite web sites and blogs. It's just amazing to me how many wonderfully talented people there are in this world. I love it when I see a new design and it takes my breath away. Then I get all teary-eyed at how proud I am that so many of my friends are designers and how wonderful their work is. (have you noticed it's a teary day for me...hhhhmmmm... wonder why?) Check out these cool designs!!

CELEBRATION... I've been dieting (NO CARBS and NO SUGAR) and I'm happy to say I've lost 25 pounds. Now.. here is the issue... I'm not sure where on my body that has happened... hahahahaha... well... I actually do... my FEET!! GO FIGURE... WHO IN THE HECK WANTS TO LOOSE WEIGHT IN THEIR FEET??? My tummy is another area where it's noticeable to me (any little bit in this area is so thankful!) PLUS... my face and neck! Why is it I have to carry my weight in the two parts of my body that make me look like it's time to put on a helmet and uniform and join the closest football team? Man... I hate this gut! Know what I mean gals??? I don't even know if I'll ever have a waist again. HA!!!

Ok... I've babbled enough today... It's time to get cleaned up and sew!! Plus we have friends coming today for steak on the grill YUM... that I can EAT!!

YARD SALE (Garage Sale) - have I told you how I DO NOT like to prepare for yard/garage sales? Just twist my arms to get it done. Of course... once the sale is in progress and I get to visit with the customers... it's FUN!!!

BUT THEN..... it's time to box up all that DIDN'T sale and take it to the Goodwill or to my friends John and Susan's auction house. (They are such a wonderful couple...so blessed to know them!) Well... that's on the agenda for today... even though my DH doesn't know it yet! We have to load up the van and take a road trip - we're going to pretend as though we are a delivery company!

My granddaughter, Lexie, is with us for a couple of days... so that has been wonderful. She'll be the protector and ride in the back with all of the fabulous items that no one wanted! HA!!! Rain.. of course it had to rain today... but that will not stop the delivery team. I want this stuff out of here !!

Have you ever gotten to a point in your life when you just need to "minimize"? I'm there!!! All I want are the things that I LOVE THE BEST around me (can you say fabric...) and the rest can be loved by someone else now.

Then Lexie and I are headed to Cinnamon's Quilt Shoppe! They are getting some fabric ready for me... I'm starting on my first project for our B-A-A-A-D GIRLS CLUB... AND I CAN'T WAIT!! Friday night is an all night sewing event at Cinnamon's and I'm going to work on this gem!

So.... This afternoon I will be cutting my fabric... and selecting the WOOL that I'm using in the center. Gosh.. It's so cool starting a new project!

We're b....a......c.......k...... from Houston Quilt Market!!! I do have one question.

Why does the time seem to FLY in the car on the way to a FUN event... and ddddddddd....rrrrrrrrrrrr...aaaaaaaaaaaa.....gggggggggg on the way home? Is it just me.. or do you all feel the same? Vicky and I thought we were NEVER getting home! The last hour (from Lake City) to Jacksonville seemed as though it was 10 hours long!

HOWEVER... I am now home, unpacked, had dinner .... and have already started my "To Do" list! Talk about being inspired... eeeekkk.... my brain is on overload!! I have to make a list and prioritize or I feel like I'm a chicken running around and around (not a pretty site...)

Wow... did we ever have a great time at market. It was such great fun seeing all of our friends!!!

I even picked up some great patterns, etc. that I plan on making or teaching at Cinnamon's Quilt Shoppe here in Jacksonville. Karen Covey (owner) has some wonderfully FUN things up her sleeve that she will be sharing with all of you. Can't wait!!

This is not a NEW book... HOWEVER, I found it at the Painted Pony Quilt Store while on our way to Katy, TX (where we stayed.... near Paula Barnes/MaryEllen Robison's house - Bonnie Blue Quilts). When I saw the quilts in this book... my mouth dropped open. This is a technique I must show you all how to do... the quilts are breath-taking. You use this ruler!

Isn't it a strange looking ruler? Just wait until you see what it can do!!! I have both the book and the ruler on order and it should be arriving soon! I can't wait to make one of these quilts!!!

Then.....

We saw this book.... in the booth of a wonderful lady... Pat Wys!! I've known her for several years... from vending the shows... and she's nothing but a NUT!!! I LOVE HER!!! The quilts in this book are to DIE FOR!!! There is one that is my favorite that I already have my fabric picked out for!

Then.... she had these bags all made! The pattern photos DO NOT show these wonderful bags justice!! See the one in the rop left corner? It's my favorite... and shortly - I'll tell you why!

I'm so excited..... and I just can't hide it..... (are you singing with me?)

A couple of postings back I told you about the quilt I was designing using Paula Barnes new fabric line by Marcus Brothers - Tavern Blues... remember?

Well, here is the quilt before it was delivered to my long-arm queens, "Lynn & Cathy" !!

We've named it - "Tavern Stars" !!!

These stars are the BEST to make - you'll NEVER loose your points!! TRUST ME!!!!

The quilt has it's binding finished and has been mailed to Marcus Brothers Fabric where it will be on display in their booth at the Houston Quilt Market!

The pattern will be available to purchase from my website by the end of November. My AWESOME graphic designer - LISA - also does tons of work for MODA and she's swamped right now... helping them to get ready for market also. So she'll work on my pattern after we return from Houston (end of this month). When she's finished - it will be shipped to my printer... then I'll get it posted on the website Olde Green Cupboard Designs ASAP!

The great thing about this pattern....it has NO BORDERS - so if you need it larger or smaller - simply make more or less stars!! Your choice!!

Now... here is a beauty that I've just finished !!! My friend, Karen Covey, is the owner of Cinnamon's Quilt Shoppe here in Jacksonville. It just celebrated it's one year anniversary..

Karen LOVES wool (a girl after my own heart)!!! She asked if I would make this wonderful quilt (designed by Lisa Bongean - Primitive Gatherings Quilt Shop) for the shop.

More information will be announced at a later date by Lisa... of which I will pass on to all of you. However.... I can tell you this project will be a Block-of-the-Week that will begin this upcoming spring! It will run for 16 weeks where you will receive ONE flower block per week. A separate finishing kit will be part of the sign-up package!

These flowers are simple shapes to buttonhole stitch - easy and fast! If you've always wanted to learn this technique - now is your chance.

I'll keep you posted on the details as they are available....!!!!

Well...it's now time to get busy and get something done today! Heck... I'm still in my 'jammies!!!

The weather is cool, sunny and GORGEOUS!!!

I think it's a perfect day to open all the windows and smell that cool fresh air... AND SEW!!!!

Good Morning!!

Friday.... great day for finishing up some housework and projects!! I've mailed my Primitive Quilts & Projects "Marriage" sampler to the girls... now it's time to finish up the instructions and send them also. I wish I had a little "fairy" that loved to write my patterns...that's the part that I dread! Love the designing and construction though... it's the best!

My hubby is leaving today for a week trip with some friends to the Orlando area. Since I'm leaving for market next week... he's taking a little time away from the home front also. Strolling through the parks, reading, relaxing...what could be better? I KNOW!!! Walking through the isles at Houston Quilt Market!

I can't wait.. it's been such a long time since I've been to one of the markets...it will feel so good!

I'm also finishing up a few other projects here at home so I can get started on my next design! It's a stitchery set as a center square in a quilt. The stitchery is of an antique bird print that I purchased years ago as an inspiration for a fabric design. Here is the print.....

I teach a class showing how to take this print and convert it into a line drawing. Then you transfer the line drawing to fabric and stitch it... like red work... only I used black thread on this project. I'll keep you posted on the progress of the quilt!

Well.... I just got a breakfast date!!! My hubby and I are going out for breakfast this morning. I love breakfast out...don't you???? They always seem to get the bacon crispier than here at home...and I LOVE crisp bacon.... ahhhh... along with the smell of fresh coffee! Life is good!

Time to hit the shower and get all dolled up!!
