Many Blessings!

Hi Everyone!!!

Heather, Vicky & I want to wish each of you a happy and blessed Thanksgiving!  This is one holiday that I LOVE TO COOK!  The smell of that Tom Turkey in the oven along with fresh baked pies should be bottled up and sold!

Thanks to each and everyone of you for being a huge part of our family throughout the past years.  It is a blessing each day when I get emails from you or special texts on my phone.  You have truly made out lives fuller, richer, and loved.

Eat well, bless your family and friends, and then.... watch football and take a nap!  Ahhhhh... what better way to relax than when you have a full belly, are around those you love, and hear the football game  in the background! zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...............

Blessings and love to each of you!

2 DAYS!!!!

oH yESSSSSS!!!!   In just two more days we will be heading to the Jacksonville Airport (with the chickens I might adddddd....) and fly to Nashville then on to Kansas City, Mo!  We are bound for Missouri Star Quilt Company.... 23 of us... for a glorious time of sewing, shopping, laughing.... and making lots of NEW FRIENDS!!

Monday and Tuesday are our two free days to shop for our project fabrics and tour the town.  We may even take in a little antique shopping.... then we can "free" sew for a couple of days.....!  Then Wednesday our retreat begins with our MO Star instructors taking over.  I can't wait to learn the new techniques they have scheduled for us.

I'm having a hard time deciding what colors I want to do all of them in!!!

What a super collection!!!!

I've seen the Pinwheel Arrow quilt on her show and it is so striking!!!  As soon as I finish chatting here... I' going to see if I have some fabric that will coordinate with my new bedroom quilts I'm working on.....  This first one if for my guest bedroom.....  I will be searching for this awesome plaid of the pillows and also used as a ruffle on either the sheet or the quilt... (can't tell for sure) !
Love it!  Of course I also love the "Chicken Dinners" sign above the bed... however, I have other adorable decorations for the room!!

And this sweet room will become my master bedroom

As you can tell.... they are both Ocean Waves and full of half square triangles!!!

so.... I'm off to the fabric closet to see what we have to choose from....

Hugs to all...

Keep those machines "humming" !!!

Headed out for a FUN WEEKEND!!!

Good Morning !!!!

Today is September 28 (Thursday) and we're all ready to head out to Camp Blanding for the weekend!  We have almost 100 gals that will be with us quilting, rug hooking, etc. for a relaxing, FUN time!!

I so enjoy these weekends...they are a bunch of work.... but it's so great to be with a room full of chatty, laughing, happy women.  All of a sudden you'll hear a group of gals all sitting together burst out with laughter... it just makes my heart feel so good!

Then... once this retreat is over... we will be home for a few days and then 25 of us will be heading to Hamilton, Missouri!!!!  Oh Yes... we are spending a week at Missouri Star Quilt Company at their retreat house!  I simply can't wait.....  you know I have a passion for family run businesses and this is one of the great ones!  Jenny (Doan) and her family came from almost loosing everything to being a great success for her business and the small town of Hamilton.  If you've never seen the story of how she began or watched the videos on her website... please do so.  It will simply do your heart good!!  We'll try to post pictures on the Olde Green Cupboard Facebook page!!

As you can see.... not a minute goes by where we are not crazy busy....but that's what makes it so much fun!

Oh... yes... then the weekend after Thanksgiving we will be in Kitty Hawk, NC on the Outer Banks... for out "Spirit of Christmas" Retreat!  We have a FULL HOUSE with this group of gals too and the projects the instructors are making are WONDERFUL!   We have ornaments, wall hangings, lots of wool projects, snowmen, bears, wool hooked ornaments, pins.... 20 projects in all!    I'll post them in another blog.. have to tease you a bit with a "sneak peak".  Our instructors are from all over the United States!

WOW..... What a month this has been!!

 Good Morning to everyone!

It's been sometime since I've chatted with all of you!  We've all been a little crazy here in the state of Florida along with my friends in TX.  My husband and I did evacuate (along with my daughter and her family) from  the hurricane.  We had to take the RV out of the possibility that it could get damaged.  Soooooo with that thought in mind... we  headed to three destinations.... #1 Alabama - to the Tiffin RV Factory.  Wow...was that ever an experience... !  What a wonderful company - all family owned and so proud of their employees and products.  We got to walk through the entire factory and see how the motor coach is built from the wheels up!  They even do their own woodworking for all of the cabinets in the coaches.  I think just the woodworking shop was as big as a football field and that is NO KIDDING!  I watched men and women sanding and polishing the wood and you could tell they loved their jobs... they treated each piece of wood as if it were going in their own home.

The inside of these motor home has better appliances than in my home!!!!
They are simply GORGEOUS

If you ever get a chance to go through this factory... even if you have no intention of ever owning an RV, it is certainly worth the visit...and it's FREE!  Everyday they give tours!

Then we traveled up to our friends - Marti & John in Kentucky.  They are so much fun!  We stayed for a couple of days and did some antiquing... we have our favorite spots to hit... laughed and hugged each other until it was time to leave.  You see... that nasty Irma was chasing us all the way up there.  We took off one afternoon and it was a good thing... the storm hit after we left...so we missed all the bad rain and wind.

We eventually ended up at Jack's sister - Linda's home in Indiana.  Her hubby and son had just left to drive to Naples, Florida so he could help his brother with damage.  They hauled generators, gas, etc. ...what a great guy... .I'm so sorry I missed him.  Love him to death!!!  However, we had a great time with Linda.... and we got to see her grand babies.

I was so worried about everyone in Florida... I had many a sleepless night.  I told Jack... I don't know if it's worse staying and worrying about the damage or being away and worrying about everything.

It's over for us... unfortunately so many of my friends lost homes, had severe damage, and lost contents of businesses.  I cried like a baby when I saw the damage on San Marco Street....

My friends at Rusted - A Vintage Market... well they pretty much lost everything in the store that was sitting on the floor.  They had prepared for some water to come in... but had no idea it would flood as much as it did.  This is where we used to have our items.... and these people are absolutely wonderful and my heart is so sad for them.

However... they are on the top of things and working to reopen soon!  LOVE YA'LL!!!

We finally headed home... isn't it amazing how long a trip takes on the return?  I thought we were never getting home!!!  It was so good to see my sister and her family... and my son and his too.... I was so worried!    We were so blessed... our neighborhood had lots of litter in the yards... we lost a pretty blooming tree in the front yard.... but that's all.  No water damage... we never even lost power!  ( sorry... I know some of you are cringing right now.... )  Then... My sister Vicky and her honey (Larry) had all of our flower beds cleaned out for us!!!!  I was so excited...it was the first thing I noticed!  We wanted to replant them and it was going to be a chore to get rid of everything in them.  We have a super family living next to us (he takes care of all of the yards here too) and they have a teen-age son and an adorable daughter (Lexie's age) ... wellllll.... he did the cleaning!  I'm even going to try and grow a small herb garden in the back.  I'll have to put them in pots... you see... I noticed we
have trails of a mole!  Dasterly little fellows!!!

Now... I am trying to unpack my house, decorate, hobble around with a sore back/hip/ paint furniture, working on 3 retreats (Camp Blanding, Missouri Star, and Spirit of Christmas ... along with Vicky and Heather's help) sew 2 new quilts for my beds... oh my.... I'm tired already...

and on that note....  I'm off to the sewing machine!

Hugs to all and stay safe.  Prayers to all of you that have had hurricane damage....

I've decided.....

Good Morning Everyone!

Well.... I have to tell you a short story... !  As I lie in bed this morning I was quickly reading my Facebook to see what exciting things were posted last night... and there was my friend Lisa Bongean telling us all about her summer block of the week .... my mind was amazed.  This woman never stops... she's amazing!  However, that is not where my brain stopped... it was a statement she made to me one day when we were chatting on the phone.  I'm not quite sure how it went but it surely struck home as I got out of bed, grabbed my freshly brewed coffee (which my sweet honey has ready for me each morning....he's so wonderful....) and walked into my studio!   Let me just say..  eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeekkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk!  I swear it looks like a tornado hit!  Here's what I see  (without pictures.... too embarrassing!)  My desk appears as though someone snuck in and dumped their entire world on it.  I have projects half started everywhere... clay, sewing, wood carving, boxes of items to be put away, wool I'm cutting for block-of-the-week kits, projects I'm working on for our Christmas retreat, binders half opened, catalogs, half done projects everywhere... do you all get my drift?  Is this your sewing studio too?  Please tell me it is!  ppppplllleeeaaassseee!!!!

Well... back to my original thoughts (I swear I have ADD in my old age!) Lisa said to me.."Glo, let's face it - you are the creator - the thinker - the designer.... I am the finisher - I implement and finish.  You know...that really struck home this morning.  THANK YOU LISA!  I've made a commitment this morning to stop all of this silliness and FINISH things.  It will be so hard... you know why?  These are all of the craft things I either love to do... or have on my list to do (whether it's begin or finish)  Ready??  It's a long list!

Quilt (piecing, applique, projects, you name it)
Wool (applique, projects... again you name it!)
Rug hooking
NeedlePunch
Cross Stitch
Wood Carving
Clay molding
Basket Weaving
Covering boxes and making wool lids
Making "critters" like Heather makes
Making vintage Santas
Making wax cinnamon ornaments
Designing
Hand embroidery
Cooking
Beading
Making "hexie" items
Block of the Month collections (which I haven't even started)
plan special events, retreats...
and on... and on... and on....

We are trying to "purge and merge" and it's the hardest thing I've ever had to do... I guess because I love it all!  Know what I mean?  Do you all have these same symptoms I do?   Then... there is this word that I can't seem to use when asked to help or do things.... it's a simple word... one I don't like to use very often... guess what it is?

NO!

I just have the hardest time spitting out that word when it comes to something I really, really want to do, make or design.  But you know what... I'm going to use it when I tell myself that's it's OK to say NO... but only when I've thought through the process long enough!  HA!!!   Oh... and on the other side of my studio is VICKY... and let me just say... she's just as bad as I am!  Two ADD chicks in one room... OMG!  It's simply a friggin' disaster!!!  I truly hope I have not passed this deadly disease on to my daughter!  She too is ssssssoooooo talented as many of you know ! However, she does seem to specialize in her wonderful "critters" she makes.... here are just a few....  All can be ordered...
Make sure you go to her Facebook page - Mohair Bears & Friends by Heather Lynn.  Just sent her a personal message and she'll let you know the price for each.  My favorite (at the moment...it changes often...) is this adorable SKUNK!

Okay... now that I've gotten all of this all my chest... it's time to get busy!  One section at a time... one project at a time... I will conquer!  Lisa... keep me on target... pester the crap out of me and make sure I'm "on target"!  You are my inspiration... HUGGERS TO YOU!

Chat with ya'll soon... I'll keep you posted on how I'm doing .. (very nervous about all of this...)

We're BACK from North Carolina!!!

Wow...what a trip we had to our new retreat in North Carolina on the outer banks... right on the ocean.  Lisa Bongean was as dynamic as ever and we all had a blast.  50 of us gals, stitching, sewing, shopping, relaxing, site-seeing... it was simply a trip I will ALWAYS remember.

We arrived on Sunday and played around the area for awhile until we could check in at the retreat house.  It was so cold!!!!!  SNOWING!  When I left our hotel to bring the car and trailer to the front of the hotel to pick up the other gals.... I thought it was raining.  Once I walked outside - giant snowflakes were falling.  Needless to say... I was quite shocked and my sweatshirt was NOT warm enough...brrrr was it cold!  The whipping wind did not help.  We were all glad to hop in the car with the HEAT on.  So... off we went... for our final hour of driving .... then we stopped for lunch after hooking up with Amy and Lisa and went to this really good restaurant they said was great.  YUM... I had catfish!  ssssssssssssssoooooooooooooo good.

We finally made it to the retreat house and unloaded box after box after box after box after sewing machine, sewing machine, sewing machine, sewing machine...ha...do you get the message????  Needless to say... we were pooped.  It was still freezin' cold outside and the wind was brutal...however, we all seemed to still be sweating!

Then...there were the BIG, 8' LONG TABLES that we had to take to the 3rd floor.  I swear they weighed 100 lbs. each and would NOT fit in the elevators.  After bringing 2 or 3 of them up 6 flights of stairs... I said..."that's it... I'm calling the rental agency and seeing if they can help us".  They hopped on it like a bunny...soon two strong fellows showed up and helped us.  Table after table...and let me tell you...they were big and strong and they were so winded when finished.  I gave them a great, big tip and told them they deserved every penny of it.  Such nice guys!!!  They were our HEROS.

So... we got busy setting up the classroom, vendor stores, snack bar, kitchen.....  I think I finally fell into my bed and fell asleep around 1:30 am.  OMG... such hard work.

After about 4-5 hours of sleep...back up again and finished up .. we had gals that we knew would show up early...they were so excited... and they did and it was wonderful to meet everyone.
Monday was a meet-n-greet.... we didn't have class...we knew everyone would be tired from flying and driving so we just had a fun afternoon and evening... then Tuesday the classes began with Lisa.

Take a peek at some of the photos Lisa took...  Lisa's Blog

Also Visit on Facebook with - Heather Parsons-Lynn - and scroll down the many posts she has about the retreat along with eeeewww and ahhhhhing over the pictures.

So.... we had to end the wonderful week and say our goodbyes.  Gosh...that was so hard... tears all morning... such a super, wonderful, fun, silly, group of new friends we have all made.  They came from as far as California, Oregon, Washington and way up in the New England states.  It's just so wonderfully fun to meet women from all over the country and to visit with them, hear their stories, laugh with them, cry with them.... you just can't imagine how good my heart feels right now.

As we were cleaning up, packing the car... it was hard work but I just kept remembering the wonderful gals and the fun we had and it made each heavy box and every step I had to take feel like a feather.  I was on Cloud 9 (as Amy put it so sweetly) and I still am.

If you have never participated in a group retreat for an extended period of time, you MUST put that on your bucket list.  It's simply one thing you must do.... there is nothing like a group of gals that love the "needle and stitching" - such oneness together!

To those of you that attended, Heather, Vicky, Wynette, Amy, Lisa and I thank you very much for making our week... "THE BEST WEEK EVER!"  We hope your memories will last as long as ours and that we see you again VERY soon!

Hugs to all... and "keep stitchin'!"
