Camp Blanding.... sign up today!!!!

Hey Gang....

Don't forget ... we have our super fun retreat at Camp Blanding Army Training Post, Starke FL
 January 27 - 29 (3 days - $75) or you can stay for 5 days ($100) - January 27 - 31!

If you have not attended before, give it a try...it's so much fun.  Our lodging accommodations are so reasonable - only $30 per bed per night!  You sure can't beat that!!!

We have single units (double bed)  that have a Jack-n-Jill bathroom

or a cottage - 2 bedrooms - one with 2 twins and one with a double bed.  Then you have a living room area kitchen/eating area and screened in porch.

Check into the Armory (sewing center) at 8:00 am January 27, 2017 and we'll sew until MIDNIGHT!
Plus... we have a SALE ROOM!  If you would like to participate...here's how it works!

Dig through those closets, sewing cabinets, storage units, under the bed...anywhere you hide your fabric, sewing notions, kits, etc. ... then find the ones that you simply know you will never finish, no longer want... or are just plain tired of.  We'll assign you a number for the sale room, you'll tag everything - assign a price and then sell it!!!  We are your cashiers... so while everyone is shopping, we are taking care of your merchandise for you and collecting the $$ for you.  It costs you $23 to help pay for the rent of the facility....then when the saleroom is closed for the 2 days - we'll tally up your sales and pay you!  Now... don't think this is a teeny tiny sale room... our gals have sold up to $16,000.00 in just TWO DAYS!  See... you can do the same thing... one gals trash is another one's treasures.  If you are interested in the sale room, email and let me know.  I'll then give you a number and forward the instructions on how to mark your items.  It is so much fun to shop through everything!

So.... if you are interested in attending.... print the attached registration form link above and join us!

Making Memories....

Good Morning...

I've decided it's simply been much too long since I've blogged and it's time I get my fanny in gear and get with the program.  I love to blog... it's just simply making myself to sit down and 'geterdone'!!  know what I mean?

Today... I'm going to chat about "making memories" !  With whom ever you choose.... I love to look at Pinterest.  It simply amazes me ... and I'm so astonished  reading and learning from all of the talented people out there is in this world.  Aren't you?  I've said to myself (while in Pinterest) ... now why in the heck did I not think of that?  Duh!

So... here are my "Memory" ideas for today:

How many times have you been out and about and you pick up unusual stones?  I remember when the kids were little... this was common practice... to collect stones from trips that we've taken.

Then... when we get home... nothing is done with them!  I'll be the first to admit... I'm sure they all eventually got tossed outside in the driveway or yard!   Well, here is a memory......  with your child (or you can make individually.... as a surprise)  how about making a picture.  this could not have taken long at all to put together and how sweet it is!

You could even give a name to each small bird and print it by each stone...then frame the entire project and hang in the living room!  How proud would your little one be sharing this great MEMORY with their family members and friends!

Hey... don't forget to sign and date your project!  Either directly on the front of the piece or on the back.  Much like making a label for the back of a painting or your quilts!  Tell the story of how the artwork was made and who was involved!

When I saw this picture.... I immediately thought of sweet cups and saucers many of you have which belonged to your parents or grandparents... maybe even greats?

How sweet a memory this is.... stack a few of them together and place an adorable silk flowering plant in the top cup.  Then place a beautiful cloche over the top!!  Place near a table lamp and the light will reflect off the glass....it will be so sweet!

And here is another memory that popped right into my head.... Since I'm a quilter.... many people think we can fix old damaged quilts.  Well, that's just simply not true.  Once the threads are bare and disintegrated, there is not much we can do.  So... what a great idea to use the quilt and make each member of the family a heart ornament to keep in their home?  You can fill with lavender or other scents... hang from a dresser drawer, tuck into your 'jammie' drawer... or fill with Christmas scents and use during the holidays on your tree, as package trimming...... tons of different ways!  Instead of using bells and pom poms... how about old buttons or jewelry?

So... now it's your turn.... dig in those drawers and find those rocks  you've tucked away from your many trips... make memories and design artwork for your home or as a gift.

Open the china cabinet... or explore in the garage or basement in those boxes left to you by your family and find something that can be polished, cleaned and tucked under a beautiful cloche.  If you do not have one, visit thrift stores....I've seen tons of them.  If it's not a cloche, use a globe or cylinder.... then find a glass crystal style plate at the thrift store too....

Don't forget our hearts... this could be a yearly ornament making tradition.... memory!

My husbands "girl" cousins... they have a "Cousin Weekend" each year.  They all take turns sponsoring and finding the perfect location and fun attractions to attend.  They laugh, cook, visit and enjoy each others company.  Mom and Dad are gone now.... but I know they are so delighted the family is still visiting together....  it's memories...

My daughter and granddaughter... they are making lots of memories... each year they decorate a gingerbread house.... so sweet....

You see... it's not all about the gifts... or how much something costs... it's about the entire process of making the memory and continuing on and on and on... making even more!

May this blog be a memory for you ....

Gloria

Look What We've Been Working On!!!

It's been along time since we've just chatted with all of you on what the three of us gals have been working on!  It just seems like there are not enough days in the week to get everything finished!

Let's start with SPECIAL EVENTS!!  We will be adding another section to our blog that will give a schedule of special events, classes, etc. where you know what in the heck we are doing and going!
Even we have a challenging time keeping up with it.

Then...we've been designing like crazy for our K & K partners - we just finished up with our fall and Halloween (for 2017) and now we'll be moving to Christmas....a fun time to design for!  From time to time we'll show you some sneak previews!  Hey... here are some RIGHT NOW!

These are all ornaments that K & K will be making for their showrooms.  Then shop owners will visit market and order them to sell in their stores.  This is ssssssssooooooo rewarding and perfect for all of us.  We are NOT... "production" gals... you know where you have to make tons of one item!  We like to design one thing and then move on to the next great idea we've decided to make while working on the last one... our brains never turn off... and there are some days when it's pretty overwhelming.

However, I wouldn't trade it for anything... a great chance to get all of these ideas out of my brain and onto paper and eventually into a product we can share with others.

And.... then I've been teaching basket weaving again.... I just LOVE to weave.  It's been such a long time and I've discovered it's like riding a bike... you just hop on and it all comes back to you.  So.. keep watching the blog and FACEBOOK for new classes coming up!

Then... we have Chalking!!!  OH HOW I LOVE THIS!

These are some fall samples we will be starting on....

and then.... on to Christmas Chalking!!!!
I'm working on some designs for our front doors.... Samples coming soon!!!

Well... that's just a tiny bit of what's happening at the Olde Green Cupboard between all three of us....
me (Gloria), Vicky and Heather.
I'll save more for a later posting....

Keep those needles moving....

Chat soon!!!

DISCOUNTS.... ON 2018 CRUISE TO WESTERN CARIBBEAN!

We have a great opportunity for all of you to join us on the Royal Caribbean Oasis of the Seas cruise to the Western Caribbean (7 nights) March 18 - 25, 2018.  (Labadee-Haiti, Falmouth- Jamaica, and Cozumel-Mexico !!!

We have extra discounted staterooms that we want to share with you.... If you look online for this cruise - you will see that some of the staterooms appear to be less expensive than our rate.    I checked with my group representative at Royal Caribbean and these are the cheapest rooms they have on the ships and located on many of the decks in areas that are normally the last to book because of where the rooms are located... or the views are obstructed ... so many times you are paying for an Oceanview and you may have a big pole right in the middle of your window... so... do not be fooled by the on-line discount prices... I've already checked it out for you.  Here are our rates!

(Double Occupancy)
Balcony - Oceanview (only 4 rooms left)  $1662.16 - includes room, all taxes/port fees, prepaid gratuities and insurance

Interior - Oceanview (10 rooms left) $1382.16 - includes room, all taxes/port fees, prepaid gratuities and insurance

Interior - no window (9 rooms left) $1322.16 - includes room, all taxes/pot fees, prepaid gratuities and insurance

We also have rooms for 3 & 4 per room... if this is the type you are needing, call me for the rate.  The 3rd and 4th person are discounted for their room fee and insurance.

If interested, please call me ASAP and I'll send you an application to complete.  Each stateroom requires a $500 dollar deposit and the remainder is not due until the end of 2017.  We will call your deposit into Royal Caribbean for you to ensure you receive our discounted rate.  Then information will be forwarded to you so you can call in future payments and pay via credit card.

Email us if you are interested:  oldgreencupboard@aol.com  or call Gloria at 904-742-1100

Hope to see you on board!!

p.s.  We have to turn in these extra rooms... SOON .... so please don't wait too long.  You have up to 75 days before the cruise date to cancel for a FULL refund of your deposit if you cannot attend for any reason.

It's "hookin' time"!!!!

We are sending this invitation out to any or all of you that currently are (or want to be) traditional rug hooking gals!  Many of you have mentioned to me that you truly want to learn this art form... I'm here to tell you that it's GREAT FUN... I adore it... along with tons of my friends here in Jacksonville and throughout Florida.  We had Carrie Martin with us last year and it was soooooo much fun!  We made everything... pins, crazy pumpkins, rugs, and more.  Carrie even helped me pick out a new rug canvas and all of my wool... I simply can't wait to begin on it!

If you've always wanted to learn... now is your time to give it a try.  Then... once Carrie returns back to Louisiana... you can all continue to hook with our group... and Katie Puckett (certified instructor) will continue to work with you and offer classes so you can learn all there is t know about the tons of hooking techniques available for all of us.

So... if you interested...read on...... We would love to have tons of wool lovers join us!

                               ***************

You are invited to join us for a great rug hooking weekend with CARRIE MARTIN!  We will have Carrie and all of her goods at Cinnamon's Quilt Shop, Friday, August 26 through Sunday, August 28.  You can bring a project you're currently working on or make one of her fabulous projects--the pumpkin heads, a stuffed kitty or one of her dolls.  She brings make-it and take-it projects for us to play with too.

The cost of the weekend is $175 which covers a pizza party Friday night, lunch on Saturday and Sunday, Carrie's instruction, renting the room at Cinnamons and beverages for the weekend. We'll start on Friday at Noon and hook into the night, Saturday from 9am until 10pm and Sunday from 9am until 3pm.

Let's Make Baskets!!

Hey....

It's Sunday morning and the weather is to be beautiful here in Jacksonville today!  I think I may even work on removal of some weeds in the front patio area and get a little vitamin D today!

PLUS... I wanted to let you all know... we are offering basket classes again... (or... I can make a basket for you)!

We've had several classes here at the house and it's been so much FUN!  I love having them here... we can eat lunch... relax if we need to... and we only have 6 students so that's very manageable and gives everyone the attention they need with their weaving.

We are currently making beautiful "rainbow"  market baskets..... with curls (if you prefer) and then  adding a walnut stain!  Wow... does the stain ever make them warm and vintage looking!  Keep watching our website & Facebook for class dates, times and location.  I'm working out dates for enrollment - so these larger baskets can be held at Cinnamon's Quilt Shop (giving you an entire table on your own) and will have them on the site soon!!!

The following baskets are from www.bevsbaskets.com and
they are simply AWESOME!!

This finish is called "weathered".  It's one of my absolute favorite finishes to a basket using a combination of stain and paint!

This basket is the longest I've ever seen!  It measures 51" long (I'm thinking ours will be MUCH shorter)!  Can you imagine?  It's painted the most awesome blue I've ever seen and then wiped with a cloth so it gives the appearance to be old and worn!

This basket is long, flat and wide!  Then it's finished with a beautiful red paint.  Once dry - you can also add an antiqued finish over the red paint!

I've just ordered this pattern but with great handle tape that is dark navy
with cream stripes and navy accent reed!
These are great for toting around while shopping or carrying items back and forth to classes!

Large storage basket with bushel side handles.  This one is wonderful with the colored reed around the center and top!  Once you have it all woven,
we'll stain it with a walnut shell wash!

Okay... .I'm now off to kill those weeds... and then throw some laundry in the washer.... find something to fix for dinner tonight... and then to my sewing studio I go!   I'm designing something NEW today.... (with little...tiny... hexies...)!

Sew some stitches today!!!

p.s.  We are working on 2 FABULOUS **NEW**  retreats .... We can't wait to tell you about them when MORE details are ready!!  (so exciting....gives us chill bumps....)

Chalkin' & Chattin' !!!

I've found another LOVE in my life (other than my honey, children, grandchildren, and sewing....)!

It's Chalking!!!!

Oh yes... I can see you now... you're saying to yourself... NOOOOOOOOO... not another project!  I said the same thing!  However, I've found a way to do my "chalking" and combine it with my sewing and projects!  Plus... I've been making adorable items for the house, to combine with my other crafts, and making gifts!

If you would like to get a group together (4 to 15) I'll come to your location and show you how!  We'll begin with a project, sign, saying, etc. that I have here already to go.  Samples will be emailed to the hostess to share with your group... then I'll get everything prepared and we'll have a fun class together.

Cost:  $40 for 16" x 19" pattern, unfinished frame for you to paint (color of your choice) and the supplies to make your pattern.  I will have already prepared your boards for you. (special designed projects/boards  = cost adjustment)   A class normally last around 3-4 hours (depending on the number in class)

I have patterns related to:  Kitchen, Baby, Friends, Everyday, Home, Christian, Sports, Christmas, Easter, Spring... I can just about make you anything as long as I have enough preparation time for drawing and copying.

Here are a few that you may LOVE ALREADY!!!!
(excuse some of the photos...they did not come across well into the blog format!!!!)

If you find any designs or sayings and you're unsure if you are allowed to use them, just give me a call (904)742-1100 or send me an email (oldgreencupboard@aol.com) and I'll research it for you.
Once you get the first one made... you'll want to make more!  You can chalk on anything!!  Go to my Pinterest boards and check them out!!

Boards:  Chalkboard Fun & Chalkboard Stuff

Hope to hear from you soon!!!!
Chalkin' & Chattin' !!!

p.s.  I promise to NOT make you clean the erasers....remember those days?

Come On Down!!!

This Wednesday morning is FULL of sun and a wonderful temperature outside... lovin' life!

I wanted to extend an invitation to all of my sewing buddies out there.... I facilitate a "Featherweight Club" one day a month at Cinnamon's Quilt Shoppe here in Jacksonville.  We meet one Sunday a month to 'sit-n-sew' and have a great time together.  It's only $5.00 and we sew from 10:00 am - 3:00 pm.  Everyone is responsible to bring their own lunch... and if you choose to... a fun snack for the group.

We all work on our own projects - on our FEATHERWEIGHTS!  Now... I must admit... I've been a little generous and allowed many of you to bring your light weight travel machines (non featherweight) and that's okay too... (even though you are being a rebel...hahahahahaha).

Plus... I'm going to have super easy "mini" instructions for you... If you are interested in joining, you can call and register or let me know.  It's is much easier if you pre-register that way I know what and how many supplies to bring with e on the project materials.

Here are the dates coming up for the Featherweight Sewing Day"

April 3
May 1
June 5
July 3

If you happen to be a NEW owner of a featherweight... or have one that's been in the closet for sometime and would like to clean, oil and begin sewing on it.  I help with that also!  So dig it out!!!  Was it your mother's, grandmother's.... relative?  What an honor to sew on their machine.  We can even look up the date from the serial number and let you know how hold your machine is!!  Cool huh?

So... mark these dates on your calendar and join me and a bunch of other great gals for a fun day of sewin', chittin', chattin' and relaxin' !!

See you there!

What's going on around here?

Hey...Hey...Hey...!

How is everyone?  We are busy, busy, busy here at the house!  Whaaaaat???  NEVER!  I honestly love being busy but I'm just about ready to flop on the couch for a couple of hours...watch a little TV, do a little sketching.... Yea right!  What in the heck am I talking about?   I have two classes to get ready for this weekend... teaching a "chalking" class to some friends - then a basket weaving class on Saturday at Rusted.... Guess that nap is not happening today!  RATS!

Vicky has been quilting up a storm on her long-arm.. plus we have all just finished about 24 new designs for K & K!  So darn cute... we are waiting to hear back from the owner to see if he likes them so we can continue on to our next category.... AMERICANA!  Love Americana... we have some super ideas and can't wait to get started on them.

This past Monday night I had the first class of our Tisket Tasket - I Love My Little Basket!.  Wow the gals did such a great job - each one of them looked different and so CUTE!  Next month I'll have pictures of their completed ones...can't wait to see how they finished them.

The patterns are currently exclusive for our class.  However, in several months, we will be offering
these NEW E-Patterns (pattern only) on our website...along with the purchase of a
basket(s) (limited quantities).
I will continually be designing new ones and posting them - once purchased you are free to use them in any manner you choose.  Most of them will finish approximately 7" square.

This club is designed to encourage participants to pick fabric and "trinkets/notions" that give their completed project their "signature" and one that will go with their home décor.

Several of the gals are making 2 - one for them and one for a friend.
The basket has a flat bottom and can sit or hang from a heavy rope handle.
It's opening is perfect for holding greenery, smaller magazines, paper plates silverware,
quilting rulers, fabric, etc.

More information on the "Tisket Tasket" - I Love My Little Basket will be published at a later date.
In the meantime, I'll continue to post sketches and/or finished blocks to wet your appetite!!!

Here is the one they all want to complete next month....

Okay... I'm now signing off to paint my chalkboards!!!

Chat with you again soon!!

Gloria

wah....then it's time to cook dinner.... NO NAP!!!  ggggrrrrrr...!!!!!
I'm then headed to my friend Katie's house to deliver products for her
to sell at a rug hooking camp this weekend.
I think I may stay and hook awhile!  (if I can stay awake)

Camp Blanding March - URGENT....

Good Morning to all!

It is with great sadness that I must share with you you.... we are going to have to cancel our March Camp Blanding Retreat - Simm Center. We have been notified by the post the center MUST be used for military training. Of course...many of you know this facility is used for all of the "computer training" and they have a unit coming on post that needs the building. We have looked everywhere to see if we can accommodate all of you in another location since the Armory is still being remodeled. NONE FIT THE CRITERIA... either large enough.... enough light for all of us... and the power we need to run all the machines.

So... here's the plan. All funds you have paid for the March retreat will be transferred to April 22 - 26, 2016. These transfer of funds will guarantee you a spot for the April retreat. This retreat is FULL, FULL, FULL, and we have a LARGE waiting list. So.... don't loose your spot!!!

Again... we so apologize for the cancellation... unfortunately, it's just something that cannot be avoided. It's been such a long time since we've all been together and I'm just not quite sure if waiting another month is possible for us... but I guess it will have to be!

We WILL HAVE THE SALE ROOM IN APRIL. Those of you that have already paid for the sale room... you are still "ON" for April...so keep digging for those great deals for all of us.

If you have any instructions, or need to reach me... please do so by email (oldgreencupboard@aol.com) I am headed out of town (cruise out of Ft. Lauderdale with Lisa Bongean-Primitive Gatherings & Stacy West-Buttermilk Basin) and will not be able to take phone calls. I'll answer you emails when we return home after February 13, 2016.

Thank you so much for your understanding and I'll chat with all of you on our return!
